Most chargers will show a green light when charged

That could take an hour

You have to or I do,charge all my items every 3 months

Not uncommon to have a failed battery in less than a year

Ideally four years & fair amount of use,but some do fail

proper method is to use what is referred to as a "lapping table" professional sharpening shops have these , look in your yellow pages for scissor sharpening , but if your a skilled hand and have some time then a simple fine file will work as well , keep same angles on cutting edges ,approx. 30 degree angle

The wire into the handle may have been pulled and come loose. You will have to take the handle apart to check. They are simple.

I have a 14 in. electric chain saw I bought last year and need to download a manual

A hedge trimmer is a type of agricultural or garden tool. And as the name suggests, it is used to trim hedges. There are mainly two types of hedge trimmers - manual and electrical. Amongst these there are some below mentioned variations.

Stand Alone: A stand alone hedge trimmer could be either power driven or manual. The power driven stand alone hedge trimmer uses gasoline or electricity to operate. However, the manual or hedge trimmer driven by human force is best when you consider environmental factors. They are cheaper and easy to operate. Generally gas powered hedge trimmers or electrically powered hedge trimmers are equipped with safety devices. The mechanism is such that they operate only when the operator has both his hands on the handles.

Tractor Mounted: This type of a hedge trimmer is more suitable for pruning of plants and crops. Tractor mounted hedge trimmers either have a movable arm or they do not have a movable arm. The ones without movable arms depend only on rotating blades on a couple of central pivots placed on the tractor's side. Now, these hedge trimmers are best for growing grapes, more specifically for making wine. Small tractors driving between the grape vines are mounted with these type of hedge trimmers, without a movable arm.

Well, this was about hedge trimmers in general. Now lets get down to business. Here's a low down on a few best hedge trimmers. The following is an overview of electrical hedge trimmers comparison.

Hedge Trimmer Reviews

Stihl Hedge Trimmer HS81T: Well, this one is surely up for grabs. Stihl HS81T is a great option for keeping your hedges in a perfect shape. Stihl HS81T is lightweight with balanced design and low vibration levels. It has 24 inch or 30 inch double sided blade length. It's also equipped with rear swivel handle for enhanced comfort at different speeds. The engine power is 0.7 kW and this hedge trimmer weighs between 5.2 kg and 5.4 kg, depending on the blade size. It is good especially for shaping and sculpting your hedge. It does not start on the first pull sometimes, still Stihl is a good option for hedge trimming.

Black & Decker NHT518: Now you would perhaps love this, if you do not want the whole baggage of fuel and electric wires and so on. It is cordless and runs on a battery and 22 inch blades that give a smooth and level cut. It does a neat job of branches less than 1/2 inch thick and you get optional extra battery packs. However, it gets a thumbs down from users with regards to poor battery life. On the other hand the users like the cordless design. Again, they say that it is not as powerful as corded trimmers. Nevertheless, it is lightweight and makes minimum noise. So you can go for it.

Echo HC-150 Petrol Commercial Grade Hedge Trimmer: Well, hopefully most of the users would echo my statement that, Echo is a very efficient hedge trimmer. This is a high performing, commercial grade hedge trimmer powered by petrol. It is a smooth and **** free hedge trimmer and is great for pruning and trimming. Durability is apparently the forte of this Echo hedge trimmer. Superb double reciprocating blades cut on their return and forward strokes, which give a smooth, uniform finish to your hedges. Not a bad choice either!

Makita UH6350 Electric Hedge Trimmer: This is a well designed tool with a great cutting action, according to a magazine on mechanical products. It is light weight and can deal very well with branches upto ½ inch of diameter. Although one of the disadvantage is that you have to bear with a cord and has a single blade operation. A fairly good option if you are thinking of buying a hedge trimmer.

Well, there you go, this was a small list of best hedge trimmers. I hope the hedge trimmers comparison was useful for you.

Take your pick according to your requirements and any hedge trimmer is good so far as it helps you keep your plants in good shape! What say!

Whilst cutting my hedge, inadvertently, I allowed my trimmer to run out of fuel. I refilled it and when I tried to start it, the engine spluttered then stopped and I have been unable, susequently, to start...

The fuel line probably has become air locked .Keep pressing the primer bulb if the trimmer has one and also repeatedly try to pull start the machine with the choke on. Eventually the air should be flushed from the line.

B&D electric Hedge trimmer I was cutting bushes and hit the chain-link fence. Now, the trimmer just hums. Can it be fixed?

Yes it can but you need to find what jammed. I would check for a bent shaft or a wrapped cable. Good luck

How to Sharpen a Black and Decker Hedge Hog sharpen-black-decker-hedge-hog-800x800.jpg Maintaining the sharpness of electric timmers can made landscape trimming easier with beautiful results. Electric hedge trimmers make trimming hedges and bushes easier and quicker than using manual hand-powered trimmers. Electric trimmers, the most popular type in the U.S., cost less and require less maintenance than gasoline-powered models. Electric trimmers are used most often by homeowners with the Black and Decker Hedge Hog series being very popular. While they are not premium products, electric trimmers like the Black and Decker Hedge Hog trimmer can keep trimming reliably for years with proper maintenance, including sharpening the blade's teeth.
Difficulty: Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need
  • Work table
  • Two medium size clamps
  • Dremel tool or similar hand-held multi-purpose tool
  • Grinding wheel attachment for hand-held tool.
  • Dremel 971 (or similar) aluminum oxide grinding sharpening stone with a tip small enough to cover the flat facet of a Hedge Hog blade tooth
    • 1 Unplug the electric trimmer before trying to sharpen the teeth.
    • 2 Clamp the electric trimmer to the work table using two clamps if necessary so the Hedge Hog is firmly held down with the blade teeth accessible over the edge of the work table.
    • 3 Insert and secure grinding tip in hand-held multi-purpose tool.
    • 4 Maneuver the grinding tip so it is perpendicular to the facet of the Hedge Hog tooth.
    • 5 Sharpen teeth in one direction, being careful to try and maintain the same cutting edge angle on the sharpened tooth of no less than 35 degrees.
    • 6 Make same number of grinding passes/grind the same length of time a few seconds on each tooth.
Tips & Warnings
  • This task should take about 15 minutes.
  • Keep a light touch; too much force can break the grinding surface.
  • For best results, insert the sharpening bit slightly less than all the way into the tool.

Trimmer Question

mains, battery or petrol A hedge trimmer can be powered in 3 ways: mains electricity, rechargeable battery or petrol. They all have their advantages and disadvantages, so decide which is best for you. Electrical hedge trimmers provide a clean lighter weight option with the convenience of immediate and continual use. However you may be restricted by cord length - not ideal if the hedge is a long way from your power source and having a cord can be obtrusive and dangerous. Rechargeable hedge trimmers give you the best of both worlds. They're clean to use and have no cord so they can be used anywhere, without the danger of accidentally cutting the cord. They are less powerful than petrol models and you do need to plan ahead though and make sure your batteries have been charged. 5-7 hours of charging will give you just 30 minutes use. A second battery will give you back up but if you're cutting for long periods of time, you may find this timescale too restrictive. Petrol hedge trimmers can again be used anywhere, there's no cord so they're safer. Just top them up with petrol and away you go, no charging necessary. These models do tend to be harder to use - they're heavier, noisier and smoky.
