I see your question in the hard drive section. There is no sound adjustment for a hard drive. Are you referring to your computer? Make? Model number and can help further
if your system makes a connection with the device on plugin , you should here a dual toned sound indicating its been plugged in and recognised. if you here this and still dont get a popup. the device can be found by opening my computer link in start menu and then selecting the removable or flash drive icon usually listed last in the letter labels. c: being your main hard drive and so on.
you wont be able to controll the volume from the tv to controll your reciever, but you can have sound come from both, with different controlls.
on your tv (not sure what you got) in your tv menu select : TV SPEAKER TO ON, and then the sound will come out your tvspeakers as well as the reciever, but to be brutally honest you dont want to do that.
that will cause an echo effect and will drive you nuts
Let me know what the Type Numeric Number and Model Number on the bottom of the laptop is. I can look on IBM website and see where the hard drive is in located to the speaker. It has happen on some HP and Toshiba I know from experience where the hard drive causes the speakers to crackle. Not sure why, maybe not enough shielding. The type has 4 Numeric Characters and the Model has 3 Alpha/Numeric Characters.
The TV has a hard drive in it? That's odd. Is there a TIVO or PVR function somewhere in it? Please give a model number/make of your unit and someone can help you more.
