My machine will not boot and it is frozen. I cannot repair as it brings me to safe mode and then it tries to reboot but nothing happens and nothing on the screen. My power button will not turn off the machine I must pull the power cord from it.
This is to be done in this order
turn on your computer press F8 repeatedly til you get something like this
press up arrow, you want to select safemode with command prompt and press enter
does it get this far? if so your ready for the next step.
login to the administrator account if you can then wait for things to load
(do these in this order and let them run and restart back into safemode command prompt if needed)
chkdsk /f/v/r/i/c/b
then
sfc /scannow if it will let you
Testimonial: "after I hit safe mode with command prompt all I have is a black screen and my mouse pointer. My power shut off switch does not work to turn machine off. I appreciate the assistance... thank you"
next time you want to restart your computer you could try pressing ctrl alt delete at the same time. it will restart the system. also
you need to find a way to run those commands ... is there anything you can get into that can do anything at all. your hard drive might be failing what is the model of your system i'll see if they have any diagnostics
there's really no self diagnostics on the system that i could see and you need to find out if your hard drive is failing or not. if you have another computer and a spare pen drive you could create hirens boot drive it's pretty complicated but there are some tools to look at the hard drive to see if it is in good health and possibly do check disc and sfc, that's your best bet. only if your hard drive is healthy you can also get recoveriable media from herehttp://us-store.emachines.com/ it's at the bottom of the page. because if it's not healthy you should do data recovery and replace it then get the discs.

You have provided some good information, but more detail is needed.
Is the system still under warranty? How long ago did this start? Have you added any new hardware or software?
Your reboot issue might not be hard drive or MBR related. Disconnect everything not needed for booting. Even disconnect keyboard and mouse to see if it will get to the Windows Desktop.
If that works, start adding until you get the reboot problem again.
If none of that helps and you need to recover data from the computer, buy or borrow a hard drive you can boot to for the computer and when you are able to boot to Windows, you can back up your important data, then wipe the drive and reload Windows or leave it blank as extra storage capacity depending upon your desire or circumstances.
Let me know if you have questions.

Hi there.
If you don't have the option of hitting F12 to change the boot order to the CD/DVD just as the computer starts up then you will have to enter the bios to change the boot order.
Restart the machine and hit either Del or Esc to enter the bios, look for the boot order and set the CD/DVD as first boot device, hit F10 and exit the bios, the computer will restart and you should now be able to boot from the CD/DVD.
Please post back with the results and if you need anymore help.
Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Hello
When booting up pc have you held the delete key or f2 key down to bring up the boot menu?Should be a option of cd dvd or hdd to boot first.
You want the cd dvd boot option on top or first.tThen reboot pc.
When asked hit any key to boot from cd, hit a key.Should start install.
If youve done this, clean the dvd or cd install disc with some windex and a paper towell, try again.
You can also do a system restore from control panel recovery option.
