This may not help, but it is worth a try. Hold the black close button on the side and the round button on the right. Hold until you get a screen that says something like "swipe here to close".
According to Apple you should do that at least once a month.

you can reset your iTunes password from the iTunes web site, and the associated em address. and restore the iOS device on your computer with the iTunes app
Contact Apple Support to reset the unit. You will lose all saved data on the device. Otherwise, you can answer security question through Phone Tech Support to reset your code.
There is no way to unlock it as a passcode also prevents other people from unlocking it to access your data. What you could do is put it into recovery mode and then do a restore which will wipe all data, assuming you have a backup, you can just restore the data.
If you forgot or lost your password for your iPad, you'll have to restore the iPad. Plug the iPad into your computer using the cable, and open iTunes. Click on your iPad in left pane and click the 'Summary' tab. Click 'Restore.' This will wipe all data from your iPad and effectively reset the device to factory settings, but it's the only way to reset the passcode.
