Just used the mixer....now can't remove the beater
90% of the time a stuck beater is due to "Gunk" buildup. Most of us clean up the mixer but fail to look at the planetary shaft. It gets loaded up with "Gunk" and slowly over time it builds until one day we put the beater on do a little baking and "Poof" the beater wont come off.
Boil a kettle soak a dish towel / rag in the water, wrap it around the beater top, let stand, remove towel squirt hot water at the top of the beater with a turkey baster or syringe. Keep moving the beater, moving back and forth, more water, then try to bring the beater up and turn off normally. When you get the beater off clean the planetary shaft with hot water and mild soap (joy) when cleaned rinse with clear water to remove any residue that may have started a new build up from the soap. If build up is not the question then something is broken inside the shaft and the beater opening and you will have to tear the machine down to clear the jamb. Hope this helps, if not let us know and we will FixYa.
Push up and twist at the same time.

Will it turn at all? Try to soak it. Put a paper towel strip where the beater locks onto the shaft and soak ot with window cleaner. Let it soak for a while. If there's any buildup, this should soften it.
SOURCE: Can't remove beater from mixer...
I took the advice from: http://forum.kitchenaid.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6356
I put a wash cloth in a pot of boiling water and used tongs to wrap it around the beater shaft while the mixer was resting on its side. When the wash cloth was not too hot to touch, I put it back in the boiling water and did it again. I was then able to easily remove the beater.
Make sure your Beater can slip in and out of the Beater Shaft
easily. Do not force the beater onto the Shaft if the shaft is bent.
If it cannot be removed easily by hand, use a soft rubber mallet
(not a steel hammer) to slightly tap the beater so it can be moved
up and down the shaft or from side to side. Then you can easily
turn the beater left and remove it from the shaft.
From Kitchenaid Manual:
To Attach Flat Beater, Wire Whip, or Dough Hook
1. Turn speed control to OFF.
2. Unplug stand mixer or disconnect power.
3. Tilt motor head back.
4. Slip beater onto beater shaft and press upward
as far as possible.
5. Turn beater to right, hooking beater over pin on shaft.
6. Plug into a grounded 3 prong outlet.
