by the picture of all the Yamaha lower foots
comes away from the bottom with pump shaft
like all other outboards

foot and holding bolts or shaft to motor
probably corroded

plenty of lower foots for sale (wonder why )

can the mechanic take the center covers off
or strip the whole unit down

Many possibilities. Mine had been sitting. Old fuel in HP fuel pump reservoir was clogging HP pump. I was able to disassemble, soak and clear pump and get running. New pumps, big money. My boat, twin 150 HP HPDI

Have you replaced all three filters under the cowling?
1. Primary Filter (1st one in the Plastic Bowl)
Reference # 12 in "Prim Fuel" Image
2. Screen on the bottom of the Fuel pump-Inside the VST
Reference # 27 in "VST" image
3. Filter between the VST and the HPDI Pump
Reference # 19 in "VST" Image

Number 2 and 3 get overlooked often, and they are pricy, but they do need to be changed.
If that has been done, the problem most likely is in the fuel pumps
Reference # 24 in the "Prim Fuel" image.
The can be tested by removing them from the powerhead, DO NOT remove the fuel lines, just unbolt them from their mounting leaving the fuel lines attached. Then squeeze the primer bulb until firm. If fuel leaks from the center hole on the fuel pump, Replace them both.

think you mean lower unit there will be two plugs one lower one uppertake them both out get a quart off lowermotor oil put the oil in lower hole and fill till the oil is coming out of the top hole then put the plug in the top hole then the lower plug you just need to fill till oil comes out of the top plug or hole good luck jeff

remove the bottom drain screw first then place a tube of the proper lower unit oil in it. then remove the top screw and gently squeeze the tube of oil and when full it will slowly come out the top drain hole. when it does replace the lower plug first then the top plug second. make sure the seals are in good shape and plan on changing the oil in the lower unit yearly for proper maintainence. make sure you buy oil designed for your particular type of motor. good luck.

very easy, take lower unit off and pump will be right there, when you buy the pump it will have some basic instructions that will help, order a service manual also, they are nice to have around

Ok by fluid I assume it is gear oil leaking yes?
There is every chance there is the smallest seal leak there that may only be present once the gear case gets a little pressure in it, either through use, or through expansion as the leg heats sitting in the sun even. Have you got a new washer installed under this screw to properly seal it? Usually a nylon type washer is best.

Also, how do you know the lower unit is not leaking or have water intrusion? Have you drained the gearbox oil recently? If so what color was the oil, milky looking at oil or good semi-transparent oil color?
