Search the internet for Yahoo Help by email. When you find it, send them an email from an alternate email account. [Chat would be even better, if you can find that option.]
Use another service for your alternate email, such as Gmail or Juno. If/when you get your Yahoo account fixed, be sure to add this alternate email address to your Yahoo account profile. That way, Yahoo can send you a temporary password - should this happen again in the future.

With the amount of dependencies constantly growing on the usage of emails it is quite difficult to imagine your email account getting hacked. Losing your personal emails, pictures, contacts, registrations details, confidential files, etc. And once a Yahoo account is hacked, the first thing that is found altered in most cases is the zip code and the password. Hackers even change you alternate email id, in order to gain complete control over the account.
If your account has been hacked, there is no point in wasting time in looking for tricks to get back the account. The amount of time you waste, is the amount of time the hacker gets to browse through the account. So, without wasting time, send in a mail to Yahoo Security department @ "[email protected]" mentioning the details of the problem. Do mention few details like the last password, the last time you accessed the account, and all the information that you had given on the registration page(at-least some of them). You would receive a reply soon, giving you the details to follow.

to change it, you may have to ask a few questions on help desk to retrieve it.or you could cancel the account and set a new one up. you should be able to change your account pasword through customer service then create a new one using the old email address. use a good virus sweeper ie avast or spy hunter to run a check on your system DO NOT use the XP doctor that comes up when you use the internet that itself is a trogen. and i would not recomend any norton programms thy can upset your system big time.

when signing up you were told to produce an optional email address what was it ?, if you now it try requesting for a new password by clicking on the forgot password link ,fill in your details and your password or a reset password link will be sent to the alternate email address

Hi Anonymous. I have no clue how to correct your dilema, but just in case you still have not been able to get through to a rep on the 800 #, do this: Call the 800 # . When you get the busy signal, hang up right away & as soon as dial tone resets, hit redial. You will get the busy tone again so repeat the immediate hang up & redial. As you keep doing this over and over you want to develop a steady rhythm to the process. This gives your phone signal the best chance to hit openings created as connected callers hang up, at the exact moment their signal disconnects from the 800 #'s incoming lines. It will take an investment of time (usually @ 10-15 minutes, although i've hit in less than 5 more than once), but it's all worth it when you hear your call go through!
