I opened the Automatic Document Feeder and cleaned the rollers but it won't work
Does it grab paper at all? Does the paper jam in the doc feeder? does it scan when place on the glass?

you have to replace it if cleaning doesn't help. look for the seperation tire or pad if it picks up the paper from the top first then the sep is on the bottom and vice versa. Clean that on really good this is the one that seperates the paper and stops it from feeding more than one sheet.

Yes, but I don't see any actual paper jams. I have a Vista O/S and I've been reading that that might be the problem; the 2840 scanner driver is not compatible with the Vista O/S and HP hasn't produced a solution yet. I appreciate your efforts, thanks.

what part do you need exactly, ADF is a part of the whole unit of your printer/Scanner, usually there were few parts available in the market, sometimes they are not replaceable, or you can find a cannibalized parts, if you let me know which one is defective

Open the adf and rotate the pick assembly till you hear a click and then take a coin and run it up and down against the separator pad and then see if the adf picks the paper or not.If this does not work try this *# 329 and scroll thru and select adf pick test if that fails its time for you to get the printer replaced or get an upgraded printer
