Why does the belt that runs the hydraulic drive and steering keep slipping off my case 1480 combine?

Bought new belt that runs the hydraulic drive and steering, it runs for a while then it slips off. I tightened it as much as I could and it still slips off.

SOURCE: belt slipping

If the belt keeps coming off the pulley you have an alignment problem. Check the idler pulley on the truck to see if it is loose or has a worn out bearing. You need to get the pulley that is crooked replaced or shimmed. Did you by chance change the water pump and now have the problem?

SOURCE: serpintine belt keeps slipping off of middle wheel

If the belt keeps slipping off the you need to replace the tensioner(its the pulley you have to move to get the belt on and off,and that part should be inexpensive to replace from any parts store.

SOURCE: Drive Belt Slipped Off

if the serpen tine belt slipped off chances are that the spring loaded adjuster pulley is no longer functioning like it should replace the belt tensioner assembly and new belt. you can also purchase a repair manual at an auto parts store for very little as well as ther parts. there should also be a diagram under the hood that shows the correct rounting of the serpentine belt.

SOURCE: Power Steering Belt slipping

Hi!!

Just apply some ENGINE DEGREASER on the belts and pulleys, rinse them with plain water, making sure the electrical components don't get wet. That will take care of your problem.

2000 3.2 CONCORDE CHANGED WATER PUMP TIMING MOVED HOW TO FIX

I know on some dodge products the timing belt drives the water pump and has a hydraulic pin tensioner. Generally you will half to press the pin back in bleeding it with a press then lock it in place with a pin and keep it upright up to the reinstall. If this is the case your gonna half to retime your engine aligning all timing marks carefully to avoid bending any valves or damaging pistons and various other internal engine parts. Once they are aligned properly then reinstall the belt and then the hydraulic tensioner and release the pressure on the tensioner by removing the pin holding it down. If this is the kind of system you have genrally dodge recomends changing your belt along with the new water pump.

Timing belt keeps slipping off

My first guess would be the hydraulic tensioner is not working.
This is an interference engine so I would not drive it until you figure out the problem.

Hi Genebaran, I doubt very much if the steering pump needs replacement, but the drive serpentine belt does. The squealing happens because the belt is slipping on the pump pulley when the pump is under load when the steering is turned to full lock. By the way, don't keep the steering wheel at full lock for longer than a few seconds at a time, as it will place the pump under too much load! Tell your mechanic to fit a new belt. Advise the mechanic to make a sketch of the routing of the belt before he removes the old one. Regards Johngee10

There could be a problem with the fluid. Either you need to add or you need to have it replaced. As you lift you foot off the gas, more effort is needed by the power steering motor to turn the engine there may not be enough hydraulic pressure to turn the wheels.

A belt keeps slipping off and the power steering no longer works.

Check to see that no bolts or mounting brackets are loose causing the power steering pump to be out of alignment with the rest of the pulleys. When replacing the belt make sure it is seated correctly on the pulley because if it is one ridge off it will cause the belt to shred very quickly.

HOW DO YOU REMOVE A POWER STEERING MOTOR AND REPLACE IT WITH A NEW ONE FOR A 2006 MALIBU?

its a pump not a motor, you need to remove the drive belt from the pump, unbolt the pump from its mounting position, drain the oil out, remove the hydraulic oil line from the pump and remove the oil line.
bolt new pump on, connect oil line and drive belt, tension the drive belt, fill with oil to the right level, turn steering lock to lock with engine running to remove all air from the system and recheck oil level

The simplest way to check is to open the bonnet/(hood), and look for a pump driven by a drive belt. Cars with PS have a pump and small oil reservoir, with 2 hydraulic hoses going down to the steering rack.

Even without PS, you can improve things by keeping the front tyres on their upper pressure limit.
If there are other models in the range with it, it may be possible to fit it from a scrapped vehicle.
