if you are using parallel port cable you must enable parallel port in bios. if you are using USB cable then for proper installation you must always install software FIRST then START software install, and only plug in printer when SOFTWARE tells you to as that is when it LOOKS for printer. make sure you only use the same usb port if you ever disconnect and re-connect it. you may need to go to PRINTERS and UNINSTALL any UNKNOWN device before re-installing. if you have a printer installed that you no longer use, UNINSTALL it as this can prevent a new printer working. If you insert printer first before software you may have trouble. If you also have 3rd party USB products such as Backup drive, then THAT SOFTWARE may interfere with install process and you may need to uninstall that software to make installing printer work.
This is a dot matrix printer made by TVS Electronics of India. It used the older parallel port interface (and had an optional serial interface). To hook it up, you'll need a PC with a parallel port, a parallel port cable and drivers. Most PC's no longer have parallel ports, so you'd need to add a parallel port card or use a USB to parallel port adapter. It would be better to use the USB to do this since Parallel ports are almost obsolete in today's computers. If you have an open expansion port you could put a parallel port card in the computer no problem but why would you want to? I would have to have a much better understanding of what you where trying to do to give you any other advice about Parallel vs USB vs FireWire. I have seen app's that use the serial port and parallel port as you are mentioning but these are tools for doing dead PC diagnostics and even most of those use the serial port because of the improves Bidirectional abilities for data flow.
your scanner is ok. But there is communication problem from computer to scanner . For that Check your usb cxable and usb port of computer working fine. Try in another usb port. If you have other port like parallel port then check it. Check drivers of scanner are instaled proeprly. Ig already installed then uninstall it and install again. Also uninstall all usb drivers then restart the computer then it automatic install usb drivers . you can uninstall usb drivers from computer with device manager. Press windows key + Pause break key to see system proeprty then go to hardware then you see device manager then uninstall all usb drivers.
Solved this problem by going into the bios and changing the port from ECP to EPP, and then uninstalling the ECP port in device manager and replacing it with a standard parallel port configuration, no problems since doing that.
I think the next one down, for parallel only, is the one you are probably trying to install. You have to uninstall that one first, before installing the new one. Do it from the Control Panel, System, Device Manager. Uninstall the Driver, then 'Install Driver' and choose the 'Browse my computer for driver' type option, navigate to the folder you unzipped the new one to and select and install it. Then reboot. It should work now.
Try changing the LPT port mode in the BIOS- there should be like SPP, EPP, ECP. As I recall there are different drivers for USB and Parallel and I don't think Serial is supported. If you installed HP drivers, Uninstall and use the Windows drivers.
Evening MCRmyFranKIE,
A parallel port is commonly known as a printer port or LPT1 port. Before USB ports existed scanners frequently used them to connect to computers. The connector on the PC is typically *D* shaped and contains two rows of 25 pins, about 1 ¾ inches wide.
Questions for you:
-Are you using that kind of cable or a USB cable?
-Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software following the instructions yet?
