Re: Golf 1 1.4i 2001 not starting because of factory
Hi. the factory alarm should not cause the car to not start. There will be an isuue with the key code or TCI ignition module. These need to be programmed after repairs so will need to go into a dealer.

No, it is not part of the radio unit proper. I have been driving my car since it was 3 days old without the factory radio. I could not tell you where the alarm is located, & I would not cut any of the original wires that lead to the radio to the harness, those might have something to do with the alarm, Vw tends to wire things funny
Hi
Your alarm or engine immobiliser are usually wired into your ignition wire at the back of the dashboard you will probably need to find out where its been joined to your wiring loom a good starting point is to take your stereo headset out and have a look at the wiring behind it as usually alarm technicians go for the quickest route and you have an ignition cable that goes to your stereo
I hope this makes sense and helps you out. Nick
thatcham alarms were only fitted by dealers as aftermarket items for 10%off insurance premiums discount although this discount was stopped soon after they found out that thatcham alarms were causing lots of trouble with cars being immobilised for no reason and found to be unfixable by VW dealers.....you only have the factory standard alarm, unless YOU have a certificate showing that one was fitted.(insurance companies ask this question so that if you have an accident and you said yes, they can kick your claim into touch.....believe me any excuse.....)
dont not cut any wire find a alarm technician and ask them disable for you unit is link to vEhicle ECM DONT CUT AND FOR THE SAKE OF CUTTING MAKE SURE THIS DONT BY SOMEONE WITH KNOWLEDGE
Your vehicle has 2 ignition wires that you can put back to factory, and start the vehicle. The wires you are looking to put back together are PINK and DARK GREEN - and found under the D/S dash. (ignition harness - right side of steering column) They will be larger in Diameter than the others. They were cut to install the security system. They go into the "brain" and out the other side. A relay inside the BRAIN is most likely failing. If you no longer want the alarm installed, simply match up all of the factory colors. Use crimp-on but t-connectors for secure connection. Let me know if you need more help.
if i remember right these golfs were immobilised by a transponder which is built into your original key and the circuits that are immobillised are the starter motor wire which can be bypassed and the other one is to the fuel pump relay but the loom goes straight to underneath the back seat , so you need to get a live to the fuel pump by some means !
your best bet is dropping the drivers side fuse box which is held by about four screws and then there is a plastic latch at each side that you just flick up by hand and then the fuse box can be lifted off its brackets in an upwards motion !
just pray that its not a factory immobilliser which is fitted because you will see where the immobilliser cuts are all made at the back of the fusebox which will make it so much easier to solder the original coloured wires together to get the car started .
and yep i have worked on this car many times and ripped my hair out over the original transpoder immobilliser bypass lol !
you can try to comand de doors puting the key in the door till all the windonwns are down than put than colse again maintainning the key in the close position
