Nook was dropped while charging and charging insert was bent slightly. Nook would take charge only using PC for a short time then not at all. I'm thinking the port may have been compromised as well.

It's It's probably not the port try tightening the charger itself not really tight but where it fits snug

Without further explanation, pictures or details of what you tried, it's hard to tell what exactly is wrong with your Nook. However, assuming that the battery is still good you will need to "reboot" your Nook.
Unlike other tablets, there is no reset button, but you can try this.
While pressing the Nook button (upside down u on the front of the tablet), press the power button on the side. You will need to hold it for couple of seconds.

Hi Brandy, I am on my third charger, BandN knew about this problem in 2012. The easy answer is to upgrade the tablet. The not so easy answer is to splice the wires with a some connectors, an electrician can do this for you.. Let me know if you need further assistance.
