I have an orangeola maple tree .some of the leaves are loosing color only part of the leaf. Still seeing new growth. ????

Hello, Bellita -

The Orangeola, also known as the Laceleaf Japanese Maple can be subject to a number of pests and diseases which can cause leaf discoloration and other damage.

Read the information here:

You may wish to hire a professional arborist (tree doctor) in your area to come and examine your tree and provide the proper treatment for the problems your tree exhibits.

Best wishes.

Do apple trees get viruses like the Maple tree?

Unfortunately apple trees are as prone to virus as any other tree and some specific to apple trees alone. If you do a websearch on something like wikipedia it will probably list a few. Its useful to know the apple variety and also description of what you think is a virus before deciding to try and treat it or cut it down and burn it. Dont put any part of a diseased tree into your compost heap if you have one. Best of luck my friend. List of apple diseases

What causes young(1Yr)silver maples to turn red already. I am in sw ark.?

If new growth they will look that way naturally. If the whole tree,is prematurely coloring then it is probably strangulated. If an older tree 6 + years old then other problems like grubs eating the roots could be an issue.

What is a cottonwood tree

Cottonwood trees are a common name given to several trees in the poplar family. In the Eastern U.S. cottonwood describes populous deltiodes, (the one I am familiar with), a large, fast growing weak wooded tree with roughly serated triangular leaves. There are however other trees throughout the u.s.and Europe that are commonly referred to as cottonwood, the all however are in the poplar (populous) family. It is generally best to determine the Latin name because that will always only refer to one specie of tree, whereas a common name can refer to several species and often differ in different regions. Likewise a tree can have several common names Such as red Maple, soft maple, swamp maple these all refer to Acer Rubrum
