Start by turning adjustment screws in. turn low speed out one turn and the high side 3/4 turn. start engine and adjust accordingly. the one turn and 3/4 turn are the starting point. saw should start at these settings and then you can fine tune. without knowing your elevation I can't give you the number of turns .

SOURCE: carb rpl and adjustment

you have 2 screws marked H and L. With the engine running, turn the L (low) screw for best idle. Then for the H (high) screw, Hold at full throttle, turn screw, and listen for smothest and fastest revs.

How to stop sawdust from coming into the carburetor section and how to adjust the chain oiler. chain seems dry.

Check to ensure the oil opening on the side of the saw housing is not plugged as well as the matching oil groove in the guide bar first. Turn the saw upside down and see if there is a + and a - sign near the sprocket on the bottom. If so, turning towards the + increases flow. Most new small saws oilers are non-adjustable.

Sthil 011 chain saw flooding has new carb

may be new carb but the main thing in flooding is that the float is getting stuck or has crack in it...Or second thing is that the needle valve has a piece of trash dirt causing it to stay open..

Go to: http://www.drystacked.com for a 12 page article on Walbro brand carburetor theory and troubleshooting. This information applies to other brands as well. Check the muffler for plugging due to carbon build-up. Check the carburetor to cylinder gaskets and heat insulator for damage or plugging of the impulse passage. The engine should 4-stroke lightly when running at speed unloaded, but immediately 2-stroke when trimming. Adjust the H jet needle somewhat to achieve this. Make sure the fuel mix is fresh and using chain saw oil only at 50:1 ratio. Make sure the lower chamber diaphragm in the carburetor is flexible with no holes or cracks. Hope this helps!

Sthil chainsaw: the saw saw starts no problem, then bogs down and dies. replaced spark plug, fiddled with high and low, but still no joy?

You probably have a tiny hole in the carb diaphram or the needle under the diaphram has debris in the seat. With out a model number we can not give you exact parts information.
Check fuel flow to the carb from the tank. If it does not flow freely then either the tank exit hole is clogged or the hose has been pinched / collapsed.
If you go messing with the diaphram do NOT adjust the float on the back side unless you absolutely have to. If you moved H & L jets... start over 1.25 to 1.5 turns from closed after repairs.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I have a Husqvarna 240 Chain saw. It hasn't been used that much. It is very difficult to start. When running it is a great saw. Runs well under power, nice saw for limbing. The book says to adjust carb use...

Before you adjust the screw, try either, opening or closing the gap on the plug. This will adjust the timing, ever so slightly.
The other choice is to adjust the space betwen the contact, and the magneto.
It is very rare indeed, that the screws on the carb require adjustment.
That should sort it out.
