"Safe mode" is really a diagnostic mode. "doesn't work" means what? Depending on what the problem is, we may be able to fix it. Please describe exactly what you mean by "doesn't work". Screen blank? Keyboard not responsive?
You can try setting the screen resolution to 640 by 480 while in safe mode, and see if that gets you someplace when you go into normal mode.

My laptop Acer 5315 start up led comes on and then shuts down almost immediately. Could this be hard disk failure?

Definitely not. If you are experiencing a Hard Disk failure, you will experience a very slow computer. Sometimes you will also hear crackling sound on your laptop. Automatic shutdown can be attributed to either processor of video card failure. Try to start your computer in safe mode or enable VGA mode. Tap on F8 on restart then choose either of the options once you get the Advanced Boot Options. If it worked, then there are another two possibilities.
1. Video card driver is corrupted. Try to reinstall the video card driver 2. Video card is defective. Bring it to the service center.
If the safemode or enable VGA mode does not work, you have a big problem cause you need to replace the Processor of your system. It is one of the most expensive components of your computer.

Well im in safe mode on my computer, will my webcam work?

When in safemode only the needed Windows drivers are loaded, thus your webcam will not work in safe mode.

Unable to paly sound in safemode.

HI,
You would not be able to play any sound in safe mode. As including the sound card , no other drivers get loaded. Drivers are peice of software that gets installed on windows to make your audio work. Safe mode is a diagnostic mode, so none of the drivers load in safe mode. Would request you to restart the computer in normal mode and then check for the sound

Thanks

Hi Friend, If your system only boot up in safemode, you should try a Clean Boot of your machine to help given steps, 1- click Start, and click Run. The Run window appears(From the safemode desktop) 2-. In the Open box, type msconfig and then click OK. The System Configuration Utility appears. 3- go to the General tab and click Selective Startup radio button. 4- Un-check all options with the exception of "Load System Services" & "Use Original BOOT.INI". 5- Click Apply, and then click Close. 6- When prompted to restart the computer, click Yes. Now if it boot up in normal mode you should get a message to the effect of the changes you just made in msconfig, don't worry about it, but make sure you put a check in the box that says "Do not show me this message again" and click the "OK" button.
Thanks,
