I'm not familiar with your set but sounds very much like its the color wheel at fault, if the picture shows perfectly but just lacks color and your set is a DLP with color wheel I'm 99% sure I'm correct.
You can try a hard reset: Unplug TV from AC mains and remove all cables from TV. Wait about 30 minutes and replug to AC power and redo the cabling. Switch on the TV and see if it works..And check if your facing when playing DVD ...
its not the time for new tv yet.as the problem you r facing is not a major problem.
Check for multiple poor solder connection on the sweep/power supply board.
or. just need to balance the three colors red,green and blue that may help. remove the front covers and look for black module that have screw and focus controls just move little bit left or rightbe carefull because you can loos the picture
Toshibas are notorious for developing shorts in the inernal guns of the picture tube. In your case the green gun is shorted to G1. The noise you heard was an internal arc between the elements.
It is unfortunate however, the repair of this problem usually requires the picture tube to be replaced. Sometimes a savvy technician with sencore picture tube rejuvenator can remove the short. This however usually does not last. Scrivitron
Yes you have a problem in the red crt driver board. Most likely the driver transistor is failing. This is a component level repair, so if you have no experience with TV repair, play it safe and call in a trained tech to assist you in this matter. Good Luck
the unit has a bad color wheel.rca has seen this problem before.The color wheel has a bad bearing which over time can seize causing the single color you see.Keep on them they know it is defective
