The indicator light for the stovetop remains on despite all the knobs for each element in the off position. One of the elements is still getting power and heating slightly despite all controls in the off position. What's the likely cause and how would I fix it?

Hello friend, thanks for your post!

I see that the indicator for your cooktop continues to remain on for your Frigidaire range. It sounds like it could be a potential issue with your switches or control panel. I would recommend a reset on your range which you can do by flipping the household circuit breaker off for ten minutes. I hope this is helpful. -Matt

Element on light on ... Nothing is on

This happens when one of the infinite switches short out. The indicator lamp will remain on even though none of the elements are heating up. To figure out which one is defective, gain access to the rear of the switches and remove the wire going to terminal P (Pilot) Restore power and see if the light is out now. Keep doing this to the remaining switches until you find the one where the light stays out with the wire removed after power is restored. Supply model number and we will supply the part number for the infinite switch. Be sure to let us know if it is the 6 or 8 inch burner switch. Good Luck and be careful. Eric

Short on Jenn Air electric stovetop

Dear Genie,
Well, you are right in your surmising!
That water has shorted out perhaps as many as several items.
One way to solve this problem would be to wait until the water dries up, could take days or a couple of weeks.
Another way would be to take a hair blow dryer and dry the parts by blowing them for a while, perhaps 10 to 20 minutes, but to see if that fixed it, you would need to turn it on, which could cause a short!
No good.
Best idea is to take it all apart and see if there is visible damage, and to take and electric meter and test it all.
God bless your efforts.

The power went out and then the elements and oven would not work but there was power to the clock?

This solution only really applies to oven elements only. I haven't experienced it with hotplate elements as they are not normally controlled by the timer. When you have an electronic timer and there is a blackout the timer normally reverts to auto. function when the power comes back on. You have to set it back to manual before the oven will work. Turn the oven element to ON and the set it to manual. The oven element indicator light will light and the oven will work.

Water boiled over into control knobs for the cook top elements.

Just fixed this problem and repaired the corner of the Ceran cooktop.

Disclaimer: These cooktops run on 220V and will kill you if you don't know how to work with electricity. If you're unsure, get some help.

The boiling water slopped out of your pot, and went over to your controls (knobs) and went down the shaft and into a component call "Infinity Switch". The water caused the switch internally to weld one of the two internal sets of contact points into a permanent position. The fix is to replace the
"Infinity Switch" that the boiling water spilled into. The Infinity switch is the component that the control knob slides on to.

In my cooktop one of the infinity switches failed and appears to damage the adjacent switch. Mine actually caught on fire and damaged the wiring and the connector. Hopefully you are better off. Since they were in such close proximity I replaced them both. For $20 you might consider the same. I replaced both to be safe and they were $21.47 each.

My cooktop has 4 elements 2 small, 1 large and 1 combined (small and large) surface. A large element was definitely damaged and possibly a small element. I ordered both. I mention this in case a multi-element was damaged on your cooktop.

You will need to contact either Jenn-Air or someone. Since you can't see an exploded parts list online, you'll have to use the schematic. It is in a plastic sleeve and it stuck to the side of the ventilator housing underneath the cooktop.

When you wire the new part in, make sure you have the wiring correct or when you turn it back on you will burn up the new part.

I hope this helps.
