Where is the ignition control module located on a 1997 c1500 v6

check the valve timing after replacing the chain. check that you connected the ignition module to the coil. Check ignition timing as you may be out 180 degrees on the timing.

You need to have the ignition control module checked (It's inside the distributor)

CONTROL MODULE-IGNITION

1992 GMC Truck C1500 1/2ton Sub 2WD 5.7L TBI 8cyl

The Control Module-Ignition is located: Under hood, center, rear engine area, mounted in distributor

The ignition and timing are controlled by the PCM computer.

For 1993 Ford Truck Ranger 4WD 3.0L MFI 6cyl the Control Module-Ignition is located under hood, center, rear engine area, mounted on distributor.

Removal Procedure

1. Remove all the electrical connectors at the ignition control module.
2. Note position of spark plug wires for installation
3. Remove the spark plug wires from ignition coils.
4. Remove the screws securing coil assemblies to ignition control module.
5. Disconnect coils from ignition control module. Installation Procedure
   
   1. Install the coils to ignition control module.
   2. Install the screws and tighten to 4-5 Nm (36-44 lb. in.) .
   3. Install the fasteners securing assembly to engine and tighten to 8 Nm (70 lb. in.) .
   4. Install the spark plug wires as noted during removal.
   5. Install the electrical connectors to the ignition control module

Check the wire harness to the Ignition control module (ICM) or replace it. It cost around $40,00 from Auto Zone and it's common for the ICM to fail, or it may just be starting to fail and it's also know that the OEM distributor had a screen vent at the bottom of the distributor for ventilation to prevent condensation from forming in the distributor. Check to make sure your new distributor has a vent and that it's not plugged up with shipping plastic. Condensation may be forming causing the misfire in the distributor. It does not have an ignition control module. The PCM (powertrain control module) fires the coil pack based on signal it recieves from the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor.

They don't have an ignition module per say.. You firing is controled by the PCM, which is the computer and is locater under your air intake box, which has to be remover for access. How did you come up with the idea it was a bad ignition module??
