INK SYSTEM HAS FAILED. UNABLE TO PRINT
The printer's control panel displays alphanumeric code error without any additional information on the cause of the error. Carryout the steps below to resolve the issue.
Reset the printer
1. Power up the printer and wait until it is idle and silent.
2. Do not disturb the wireless connection if the printer is connected to a network.
3. If the printer is connected to your computer using a USB cable, unplug the cable from the printer's rear.
4. Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.
5. Plug the power cord out from the printer while the keeping the printer turned on.
6. After a minute, plug the power cord back to the wall outlet and into the printer's rear.
7. If the printer fails to power on automatically, press the power button to turn it on.
8. Reinstall the ink cartridges.
9. Print a calibration page if prompted.
10. Plug-in the USB cable back to the printer if you unplugged it.
11. Try to print.

The manual will say to turn it on and off and also to unplug it and hold the ok button while doing so. If this doesn't work, then go to
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=1153494&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&submit.y=8&submit.x=5&lang=en&cc=us
and upgrade the firmware, you will first have to select your operating system. This should then solve the problem.
If this still doesn't work, then contact hp at www.hp.com/support and click on Contact Us and go to and sign into the chat line for 24/7 tech support assistance where they will most likely run you through the same process once again but if everything they tell you fails, they will then send you a different firmware.exe file that will definitely fix your problem. Let me know if the link works or if you run into any other problems
good luck

Easy fix. I found elsewhere on this site that the solution is to RESET the printer via the following instructions from HP...
1) Unplug Printer
2) Simultaneously press and hold the HELP & OK buttons
3) Re-plug in printer, while still holding the two buttons.
That's it ! You are reset. It will take a little time for the printer to re-configure, but you'll be printing in 5 or so minutes.
