What Rob said.

Anyway, you haven't said where you are, but I'll assume you are in Oz like me. There are 2 kinds of health card for seniors, but neither can be had until you are old enough to apply for an age pension, which for most people is 65. If born after Jan 1954 it is 66 or older. Look up

http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/services/centrelink/age-pension

The income threshold for the age pension differs for single and married people, and has a sliding scale, see here

http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/enablers/income-test-pensions

You can have a pensioners health card if you are eligible for a part old age pension, even $1 per f/n. It cuts out when your income exceeds $1868 p/f (Sept 2014) for a single person, and $2860 p/f for a married couple together. don't lie to them, they know everything.

Now for those of age as described, but not eligible for old age pension for some other reason like assets, there is the Commonwealth Seniors health card. This also has an income test, and you must be earning less than $51 500 p/a for single persons, or $82 400 for couples together.

I currently have health insurance $469.00 per month and need to go to a cheaper option. What do I get free as I am a senior citizen ?

If you are a senior citizen, you should know by now, nothing is ever free. Ha Ha. But seriously, you don't say your exact age or where you are located. If you are in the United States and a citizen or permanent resident, you will qualify for Medicare Part A at age 65. If you worked in the US, you had FICA taxes withheld from your pay and this is part of what those FICA taxes were for. If the coverage is not as substantial as you like, you have the option to purchase medicare supplements which will offer additional coverage. If you are low income, you may qualify for medicaid but if you've been able to pay $469/month, it's unlikely your income is low enough to qualify. There is also the Obamacare health plans which you can check on the governments health care exchange which may offer subsidies (paid for by taxpayers) to help reduce what you have to pay for health insurance. Just be careful before purchasing one that you understand what you are getting, many of these plans have very high deductibles and coinsurance making them almost useless.
