How do i remove the powerr supply from a compaq cq5700y desktop?

better answer, nobody runs XP now.
unless , you love pain, do you, XP is virus magnet.

Just buy a new power supply, they are considered disposable parts. It's probally a retefifier or diode.

Sounds like the Power supply got surged. Have the power supply tested or take one from an older computer and use that to test the main board and other components.

Hi,
Turn the machine off.
Remove the power connection to the machine.
Open up the machine and locate the CMOS battery[a round silver 3v battery on tthe motherboard]
Remove the CMOS battery.
Disconnect hard disk from power
Re-connect everything now.
Power on the machine.

the top cover should slide off from the back end remove any swrews at back before sliding cover

Unplug it from the wall. Remove the side panel. Look for a small circular battery (similar to watch battery). Remove the battery for 30 seconds. Replace the battery, plug it back in. This should reset the bios. Green light on the board does not necessarily say good power supply as well. Very likely motherboard or power supply.

Check your battery inside your tower, it maybe dead. Also, change outlets.

The power supply is faulty and needs to be replaced, undo the screws holding the top cover on, pull the cover up and away from the from the front, the power supply will be at the back on the right, there are four screws holding the power supply in place, they are at the back of the computer case, undo these and the power supply should come out, make a note of where the power connectors go before removing, take the power supply to your local pc store, as most power supplies are standered the compaq power supplies maybe slightly smaller in size, so your local store may have a replacement or you may have to order one straight from compaq. hope this helps. cheers.

No lights and fans ? then how du u can say that power supply is ok. Is the fan inside the SMPS spinning ? if yes, remove the cpu cab. remove 24 pin power supply cables and 4 pin 12 v supply from the motherboard and re attached them. and try.

It may not be the power supply. The Battery can only take 500 charging cycles in it's lifetime. the battery could have failed or the chip on the motherboard that regulates voltage to the battery may have failed.

Easy test for power supply is with battery removed if it still powers up the laptop than the voltage and amperage are sufficient.
