Yes, it could be the remote receiver in the set is bad but if you just bought the set--it should have a warranty.

It is either the remote is locked out or bad or a issue in the set.

Goto the near service center and a new remote of your tv brand and unlock your tv by child lock. its the simplest solution for your problem
