SOURCE: My new Danby dehumidifier never shuts off

This unit is designed with the intention of the fan running all the time. The compressor cycles on and off with demand, however the fan runs continuously to provide constant room circulation.

Hi,
There are many reasons for a dehumidifier2_bing.gif to not work or collect water.
Here is a tip that I wrote to help people to figure out what is going wrong with their dehumidifier2_bing.gif.

SOURCE: just purchased a Danby dehumidifier

Depending on which mode you have the unit set on, will determine if it shots OFF entirely or the fan continues to run. In the Constant or Continual mode, the compressor will turn OFF, once the humidity extraction level has been reached. But, the fan will continue to operate, in an effort to keep the air circulating, so that if the humidity level rises, the compressor will turn ON and start extracting again.

In Timed Mode (usually 2 hour or 4 hour) , when the compressor turns OFF the fan does too.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

SOURCE: I have a DDR7009EE and the fan runs continuously

Lyle, your particular model is designed for the fan to function constantly. However, the fan running doesn't mean the compressor is always running. The reason the unit was designed this way, is for the air to be continually moving, and when the humidity sensor picks up a rise in the humidity level (above where you have it set) the compressor will turn ON and extract that humidity.

Your unit is working as it should. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Dehumidifier norpe keeps going on and off

If your Norpole dehumidifier is repeatedly starting and stopping, it could indicate a problem that needs to be addressed. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
  1. Check the humidity settings: Ensure that the humidity level set on the dehumidifier is reasonable and not too low. If the desired humidity level is already reached, the dehumidifier may turn off until the humidity rises again.
  2. Clean the air filter: A dirty or clogged air filter can restrict airflow and cause the dehumidifier to overheat. Turn off the dehumidifier, unplug it, and locate the air filter. Remove the filter and clean it according to the manufacturer's instructions. Allow it to dry completely before reinstalling it.
  3. Check the water collection bucket: If the water collection bucket is full, the dehumidifier may automatically shut off. Empty the bucket and ensure it is properly positioned back into the unit.
  4. Verify the drainage system: If your dehumidifier is equipped with a continuous drainage option, make sure the drainage hose is properly connected and not clogged. If the drainage hose is obstructed or improperly installed, it can cause the dehumidifier to turn on and off.
  5. Ensure proper ventilation: Make sure the dehumidifier is placed in a well-ventilated area. Restricted airflow around the unit can lead to overheating, triggering the auto shut-off feature.
  6. Power supply issues: Check the power cord and make sure it is securely plugged into a functioning power outlet. Also, ensure there are no issues with the circuit breaker or electrical supply.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it's recommended to consult the user manual or contact Norpole customer support for further assistance. They will be able to provide more specific troubleshooting steps or advise on potential repairs or service options.

I have a DDR7009EE and the fan runs continuously even when the humidity in the room is below the setting on the machine. Shouldn't the fan stop when the desired humidity is reached?

Is there any way to run automatically. . . where when it reaches humid per cent it shuts off? Can you rig to run for x hrs. per day and then shut off and restart the next day?

Norman, once the unit reaches the extraction level you have it set for, the unit will turn OFF automatically. However, depending on the humidity level in your home, it may take several cycles of running and emptying the bucket until it reached. After that, it should turn OFF, once the level is reached. Then when the humidity level rises above the setting it's on, it will start up again.

Since your unit is a Manually Controlled unit, there's no safe way to "rig' it to run on with a timer. The plug in wall timers are not rated high enough to handle the load of the dehumidifiers operation. Trying to use one, would fry the timer and possibly the dehumidifier.

If you want all the features you mentioned, you will need to purchase a new electronically controlled dehumidifier.

Just purchased a Danby dehumidifier (model # DDR6O11R). I was wondering when the dehumidifier reaches the programmed level of humidity (example: 40%). Is the unit suppose to shut off completely? I believe...

When the desired humidity level is reached (in my case 50 %), the unit does not go into standby - why is this? It reads 48% but is still running.

I would check the humidity sensor. I think it is located in the return side of that model. It may have trash on it.

Our dehumidifier turns on for only a few seconds, then shuts off.

Wendy, it's probably because the humidity level on the unit is set higher than the humidity level in the house. Keep in mind, the humidity level you set the control to, is not the amount extracted from the air. It's the level you want it to maintain. The higher the percentage level, the more humidity stays in the house. The lower the percentage level, the more humidity it removes, until the lower humidity level is reached. Then the humidifier will automatically shut OFF and/or the unit shuts OFF, because the bucket is full. Once it's emptied and replaced, if the unit needs to continue to extract humidity, it will start running again.

Hope this helped you solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

Hi, bought one two weeks ago. Try it on auto and set at 'normal', and 'dry' and the unit will stay running with out stopping over a period of day and a half. Collected about 1/3 tank of water. Phoned...

If you are in a very humid room or area it will not shut of until it reaches desired humidity% level that is set. If it is reaching the set level and not turning off I would return it.
