Most submersible pump motors are interchangeable.
A 230 V motor will run cheaper. Be sure to get the correct HP motor.

Where do the wire leads connect to the switch?

Look on the id plate on the motor, and inside the cover on the back and inside the switch cover.

Is there a switch that cuts pump off if well is out of water on pump?

They're made and called a low pressure shut off switch. I know square D makes them or at least they did 40 years ago.

Utilitech pro submersible pump has good electrical connection but pump won't start

There is a starting capacitor on the motor pump, check this out if faulty then replace it.

Short in well

the best would be to rewire and check if its running in a bucket of water, if all is ok then seal it with a epoxy resin cast

I installed a shur-dri 4"

Hello
If this is a 220 volt pump then it needs to have 2 hot wires,so it would be connected to 2 15 amp breakers. The ground shold run from the pump back to the fuse panel box ground bar.

If this is a 115 volt pump it should be connected to one hot, one nutral, and one ground.

Possible a hot wire is making contact with water and tripping breaker.Or the pump motor is going to ground which means its no good.
