I have a 2005 renault grand scenic that recently went in the garage for work and has come out with the 'parking brake failure' message on the dashboard. The handbrake is electric and is working perfectly although it looks like the manual release in the back on the car has been tampered with. The mechanic is accepting no responsibility as it's in full working order. Any ideas why the message is persisting?

A renault tech told me how to reset the electronic parking brake on my grand scenic without going to dealer, this works if you have had to pull the yellow emergency handle in rear which i have had to do this week.

Turn your ignition on without starting engine, have drivers door open and press lock button on keycard
put keycard in reader and press start button for 5 seconds.
pull large part of manual handbrake handle and push small button with red light without letting go of larger handle and you should hear the handbrake motor reset!

That should be it!

    Thanks Mike,

I done this 3/4 times and now my car won't start at all! When I press the start button all I get is a fast clicking noise - kind if like when the battery goes but all the electrics on the car are still working. Any ideas?

If you are sure the battery is fully charged then it sounds like the starter motor is sticking! You could try tapping it with a soft mallet or piece of wood to free it!

Hey,

You can try another battery if you have one, or take the battery to be tested somewhere to see if its at fault

Thanks,
Ekse

SOURCE: My renault megane automatic is stuck in reverse and won't start

Hi all,
I have a 2002 Renault Megane 1.6 Convertible and experienced exactly the same fault. Needed a team effort but we found a very easy quick fix to this problem. If you take the plastic cover off from under the gear shifter, you will notice a release button covered by a rubber cover. Pressing this release button allows the gear shifter to move from its locked/jammed position. (This is not the fix but it helps with the fix).
If you are fortunate enough to have a 2nd person available, have them poke their head under the bonnet to watch the Gearbox cable move....while you are shifting the gear shifter inside the vehicle. Your partner will see that a cable with a plastic locking device (right hand side of the engine cover) has popped off the shifter for the transmission. Move the shifter until you can physically put the plastic locking device back on the shifter mechanism and your all good to go. No need for that new gearbox that you might have been quoted on!! An easy fix that I am surprised no mechanically minded professional/body in the world has volunteered the solution to. I wonder why????

Good luck!

SOURCE: 05 Renault Grand Scenic. No dipped headlights. Bulbs and fuses OK

Are u sure that the bulbs are OK? I had no dipped lights on mine, & thought it must be a fuse or another electrical fault. It turned out, both bulbs had gone. I think this often happens when one side goes, the other soon follows.

SOURCE: How to reset renault laguna ABS, Service and Handbrake malfunction lights

Whenever this warning light or any other stays on in the dash it is indicating that the systems control module (or the system sensor in the case of lights like low oil pressure, door open indicators etc.) has detected a fault, it then disables the system (this applies to ABS,TCS, TCM, SRS and BCM faults and others) as long as the light is on. You must now have the dealer hook up a special electronic diagnostic tool and "scan" the system for the fault code that is stored for the problem(s)

Legend of Abbreviations. ABS Antilock brake system.TCS Traction control system, TCM Transmission control module, SRS Supplemental restraint system, BCM Body control module
