The defrost timer in a Westinghouse fj383 freezer is typically located at the back of the unit, near the compressor. You can unplug the unit & open the doors. Not very friendly to all of the items in the fridge. You can accelerate thawing w/ a heat gun or hair dryer. You will need to replace the defrost timer to prevent it from re-freezing. The defrost timer is relatively easy to replace. I recommend viewing the manufacturers' website to determine location & part number of the defrost timer.

clockwise slowly untill the compressor stops or starts. I need to make sure the timer is not stuck into defrost. I want you to leave the compressor off for up to 35 minutes. If the freezer compressor doesn't restart bt then simply again turn the timer clockwise slowly until it does and then stop turning. The defrost timer is location 23 in this photo HERE If you need to turn the defrost timer like this to restart the compressor then replace the defrost timer and this will resolve the freezing problem. If not we move to the defrost heater location 14 in the sme photo=> 216254600 Defrost Heater

check the timer maybe your Fridge it has timer to defrost or is set to auto defrost try to make set to manually defrost..or if you have manual of that item read it for guidance..

Part 23 on this diagram is a defrost timer. It's behind the kick panel at the bottom. Since your model number was incomplete this may not be yours. The defrost timer is normally located in the area of the temperature controls. There is a clutch head knob on the timer which can be rotated clockwise very slowly until a click is heard. Wait 30 minutes and defrost should take place in that time period. If defrost does occur and the system does not restart cooling, rotate the knob more and you will hear a second click and the compressor should start .
If the system restarts in the cooling mode in 18-22 minutes the defrost timer is good and the problem is more than likely in the defrost heater circuit.
