I spoke to an agent by phone. he told me the problem might be a blockage in the hose. I no longer have the owner's manual! help! my vacuum keeps cutting off!
Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.
To remove DC26's hose, you first need to remove the post-filter cover, using a coin to undo the two blue-coloured catches. You can then release the hose bracket, and unclip the hose from the inlet:
Our Support guide will walk you through each step to help you check for and clear any blockages, so you might like to give this a try: http://www.dyson.com/support/dc26/dc26-multi-floor/diagnosis-root-menu/dc26filterwashvid/dc26filterwashvid/performance-flo-dc26-wand-suction
You might also want to give the filters a wash - in normal use we recommend washing these at least once a month. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for both filters to dry completely before replacing them:
I hope this helps, but if you'd like some further guidance from our experts after giving these steps a try, you can reach us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

You don't say what model of Dyson you've got. It's listed on FixYa under DC14 Animal, but sometimes things get listed incorrectly. If it is a DC14, there are several places to check for blockages: 1. remove the wand and check it; 2. remove the hose and stretch it right out, check for blockage and possibly holes; 3. tip the machine forwards, remove the U bend and check in there; 4. just around from the U bend, on the right side, there is an airway inspection valve - remove it and have a look in there too. When replacing these bits, make sure they are clipped in place securely.
That about covers it. If yours isn't a DC14, or if this doesn't help, please post more details and I'll try again.

1. Check the on/off button these can also be troublesome and if you've stood on the cable once or twice you could have a break in the wire and it's shorting, check by turning on and wiggle cable around where it enters machine.
2. Faulty thermocouple, it is held in a white plastic housing screwed with one T15 torx screw to the motor housing. You could replace it but I just shorted mine with some wire and it hasn't failed since and more importantly not caught fire yet!

SOURCE: No suction on wand of Dyson DC14 Animal
Hi its Darran at Dyson.
It sounds as though the wand handle is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose from the machine as if you were going to use it to vacuum the stairs. Switch the machine on and test the suction at the top of the wand handle with your hand. If the suction from the wand is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction again from the top of the hose. If the suction here is good, then you know the wand handle is blocked. If the suction is poor at the hose, you can remove the hose from the machine and clear any blockages here.
For the full blockage procedure please visit the support section on our website at www.dyson.com.
Kind regards
Darran
