SOURCE: Why won't my McColloch 3200 chainsaw start?
lemmingleejn did not explain to you how to adjust the magneto, (not like adjusting plug), a pro needs to do that or check the plug to see it it was good. It is cheep to just buy a new one as cleaning an old one is ok but a minute crack in the porcelain is easily missed and the spark bypasses the eye and can also bypass by an improper cleaning(bigest mstake is using a wire brush to brush it with, all you do is put a metal coating on the porcelain creating a direct short and no spark, duh! Proper cleaning fluids, not gasolene. The mag should never adjustment unless you left it outside submurged in sluck for years. Also big mistake is old fuel as most people never drain and leave the old fuel from last year in it and wonder why it will not start in the summer a year later. Sorry to be strong minded with you but there is a proper way and misinformation only gets you in deeper and causes more work for you. Always drain the gas out and run it dry if you are not going to use it with in the next month or so, save you a lot of heartake, this holds true with any gas engine. Also change the case oil every year, ok, good luck!

Set the gap as Drallim suggests then follow this to test the ignition system, the entire system.

You may need to use a jumper wire between the threaded part of the plug and the cooling fins. You do not have to bend up the electrode. HTH

SOURCE: chainsaw wont start. new plug has a little spark.
The engine case needs to be removed to expose the flywheel and ignition module. Check the module pole gap to the flywheel magnets with a thin business card for a gauge. If the gap is excessive, that can give a weak spark. If the gap appears to be correct, then it is probably time for a new ignition module. Make sure the spark plug is gapped at 0.020" before condemning the module. The spark should be blue and snappy. Check it in a dark area. Hope this helps!

First check for a disconnected wire at the switch. If that checks out ok,follow the wire from the switch to the ignition module(also called the coil). Most saws use the on/off switch to complete a circuit to ground to kill the engine. If the wire to the ignition module is missing the insulation and grounding to the body that will keep the saw from providing spark.
If all the wires and the switch proves ok you may have a bad module.

You need to check that this machine is mechanically sound, remove the muffler and check the condition of the piston skirt through the open exhaust port, any signs of scuffing ( seizure ), and the cylinder will need to be removed to assess the damage
