The MIC alone can be changed in your phone... you will find a small MIC attached to the middle panel in your phone. You can buy a replacement for this and you can change it...
You have to firstly test your head phones on another computer.... If it works in another computer than firstly update your anti virus program and then re install your drivers.... If it does not solve the problem you can re plug the cable of sound card on mother board... If problem does not solved than your sound card might have problem.
the mic in the 5300 handsets have a big problem where nokia used cheap mics and they stop working after a while

please follow this steps> control panel>sound and audio> sound> troubleshoot> it will follow the steps .. it will recognice the whether mic is in working condition or not.. if it did not recognice there is problem in the mic . u need to replace it..
