TonyI have Samsung TV, model LN46D550K1F. I have voice but no picture. I have a Comcast system. When I turn the power on the blue light on the HD box goes on but there is sound but no picture. When there is a picture the Samsung icon appears on the screen. Is the lack of a picture due to a problem with the TV or is the problem related to the Comcast internet? Thank you,

You should always have all expensive electronics on a surge protector. It sounds like for this set the power regulators blown out as I know this set very well and seen it a hundred times!! its a power regulator IC that cant handle a power surge at all. and if thats your only problem, it shouldnt cost more then 175.00 to 250.00 to repair. Now with a surge though there could be other problems as well but from what you stated Im guessing alls ok except what i stated. Now Please do not attempt to repair yoursels, as these sets have alot of Hi voltage inside them even when they are unplugged.. Good Luck

ok your tv does not come with the very best sound, you have to get a receiver 7.1 or you can use the optical wire , that's if the system you are using has that option.

Try HDMI if the TV has the inputs or swap the component cable.

SOURCE: I recently had my tv repaired for diode problem,it

Well the capacitor problem usually causes power up problems. If your tv comes on now it sounds like you dont have the same problem.Vertical lines are usually caused by bad flat panel or dirty ribbon cable contacts on flat panel connections.

Just want to know if i can get hd channels with a regular comcast motorola dct700 box, if so how? Also, what DVD player should I buy with this, as well as type of cables. TV just given to me, no remote,...

No HD channels on a DCT700, you have to have a HD capable box from comcast. Usually $8.95 a month for box rental. Don't know a lot about DVD players. If you get a comcast HD box, and have an HD TV, you should use an HDMI cable for best picture. Second choice is component cables. Those are the red, white and yellow or red, white yellow, blue and green cables.

Hookup the comcast hd box to my new lcd tv?

You can use either component (Red/Green/Blue video and red/white audio) or HDMI cables to connect the Comcast HD box to your TV. Most times you can get these cables for free at the Comcast front counter.

Recording with comcast hd box and toshiba VCR/DVD

1st, see if you can get another cable box that offers component as well as RCA outputs on the back. Does your cable box have S Video out and does your toshiba have S Video in? If so, hook up the S Video from cable box to Toshiba. Then hook up R&W audio from Cable Box out to Toshiba In. Set the channel on the cable box to what you want to record. Set Toshiba to record channel 3 or 4, whichever your Toshiba is set on. The cable box controls the channel you are recording. You cannot set the recorder to the channel you want to record. It must be either 3 or 4. Try it. If everything else fails, you have to go cable from wall to cable in on cable box, cable out on cable box to cable in on Toshiba then either cable or RCA out on Toshiba to TV.

Closed captions go on and off sporadically

if the comcast box is not hd then the control is with your tv/remote.
If the comcast box is hd, then you can control it from the comcast remote. To do this press cable, then power and in 2 seconds press menu to get to the hidden hd setup menu, scroll down to closed captions and set it to enabled or disabled then press power twice to get back to you rtv

No sound on NON HD channels

I had the exact same problem on a brand new Insignia 26 " LCD with DVD. Comcast tech was able to fix it by changing the Comcast box diagnostics. Here is what he did. Using the Comcast remote with the TV on - press power, cable, menu in that order. A comcast diagnostic srceen will appear. Select Additional HDMI options, then audio options. Change the audio options to L-PCM. Press power again to exit the diagnostics. That will fix it and you get to use the HDMI cable.
