Low sound at high volume

I have a sony str dg1100 reciever. Bought new dec 2008. It has worked fine till recently. I have to turn the reciever up -16 to as high as -5 for decent sound. It used to put out good sound around -30.

Hi,

THe problem is with the variable resistor present behind your volume control knob, try replacing the volume controls variable resistor, this must work fine... this is a common prblem for all the music equipment that has knob control for the volume....

This resistor can be replaced with your product warranty, contact your seller for the details regarding warranty...No need to woory about this, this is a sommon problem for most of recievers

My reciever turns itself off

You most likey have a wire short on your center or rear surround speakers. The wire short will be between the + and - points of the speaker wire.

To find the problem speaker, disconnect one of the 3 speakers at a time from the back of the sony and see if the problem goes away. Once you identified the offending speaker, check both the sony side and speaker side for the short. The small wire strands are hard to see and it only takes one to trip the protection mode, so look carefully.

Fixed the Onkyo. Took apart the balance adjuster and rebent the feather-like things inside so they made contact. Clamped it back together and it works fine.
