How are you testing the audio out?
Are you using another radio?
If so, are you REALLY sure the other radio is ok?
If the other radio is ok, how do you know the mic is ok? have you tested it with another radio?
If the mic is ok, id have a look at the mic socket to check that all the pins are still there. Then open the radio up and check the socket is still connected to the main board.

Let me know how you get on..

SOURCE: Magnum 257HP ,Poor TX audio , tried several mics

That mod that magnum does really ups the sensitivity. so much thats is too much. If that model has a switch for the compressor turn it off. It will help 100% and make it sound decent not twangy and over modulated. Just the design of these newer exports are not like the old ones.

SOURCE: NO variable power on FM,or SSB, but variable works ok on AM

Look for open resistors near by, if the 2SC1969 shorted it has taken out one or two parts, also check for open foils on the printed circuit, beyond this a circuit diagram is needed.

Rci 2980 no modauliton on am/lsb/usb/fm.but good recived. and good output.on am.

is it steady output on AM with no modulation swing. then change the Audio transistor. SSB should work. they feed straight through to rf final. if no modulation on either mode, then check the mic, audio ic preamp.

Symptom:Buzzing or motorboating sound in either the transmit or receive.
Problem: TR602 is oscillating
Cure: Replace C602 with a .01uF cap {Cap is located in the power supply board}.
RG 66,99,DX2517 Replace Q54 2SB754 60watt 7A with a higher power 2SB817 100 Watt 12A. Derating of this component will cool operation, provide better voltage stability, decrease wobble, allow voltage increase to 14.5 volts comfortably. (replace 10 volt caps in this section of the radio to a minimum of 16 volts before increasing supply voltage to this level)and provide faster swing rise time, Replace Q37 2SA473 to a 2SA1012-0 or ECG153 this will improve the clarity and volume of the modulation and it will also run a lot cooler.

Magnum 257 it will not transmit on lsb or usb it will on am and f

With SSB you have to put audio on the carrier you cant just key the microphone and expect it to output a signal unless you talk into the microphone at the same time this is how SSB works.
So if you talk and the meter starts to move then its ok, if you talk or whistle and nothing moves then the circuit on the SSB side of the unit is faulty.
