My Whirlpool Duet washer is making a loud squealing noise when filling with cold water, or it reduces the cold water to a trickle, which sometimes causes the washer to throw an FH code. It does not happen on every load. I have replaced the water inlet valve and the flowmeter, but am still getting the problem at times. I'm out of ideas!

Hi. Got some info about the FH error from Whirlool service manual.

F/H

No water detected entering machine or Pressure switch trip not detected.

If after 30 seconds the control does not detect water entering machine and then valves will be turned off and the error code will be displayed.

In my experience the CCU is the problem (control board).

IF the machine has water! If not, check water valve, hose, water tap.

Do it overfill? If thats the case, the pressure switch is gone, its hose has a leak.

Hope this helps you

SOURCE: Whirlpool Duet washer fills with water by itself

sounds like a faulty water inlet valve, not seating properly after closing the valve.replacing the valve is the only solution to this problem, in the meantime you can turn off your water supply in between doing loads.

not a bad habit to get into!!!!

SOURCE: Front load washer fills up with water

Jamesbestor,

The water fill selenoid had junk in it holding the valve open or the seat in the valve is damaged.
Turn off the power and water, remove two screws on the back of the machine and remove the lid.
On the back left top corner are the water fill selenoids. Remove these and disassemble by undoing the 6 or 8 screws ( depending upon model ) holding the unit together. Clean and reassemble, it should take care of the problem. If not, replace the selenoid.

SOURCE: Whirlpool GHW9100LW2/CSR1903623 flashes a FH code

The "FH" error can have several causes, so this can sometimes be a tricky problem to diagnose. Some of these error codes can also be erroneous. The first step to troubleshooting your problem should be to unplug the washer for at least 30 minutes in an attempt to reset the Central Control Unit (CCU). This is the main computer (or brain) of the washer. Sometimes this is all it takes to correct minor glitches. If your error code reappears following a reset, then you know you have a genuine problem. If the "FH" error persists, the following link explains what to do:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r615354-fh_error_code_whirlpool_duet_kenmore

Although, you may be correct in your assumption of a possible water inlet valve problem, I would recommend you read through the link provided and try to eliminate the easy things first. Check your installation for a possible siphoning issue, followed by a check of the drain pump. If those items check good, check the sediment screens in the water inlet valve. If you live in an area that has hard water, or if you use well water, the sediment screens can become clogged with deposits and debris. If you suspect a clogged inlet valve you can also remove it and thoroughly clean it in a 50/50 solution of water and distilled vinegar. Allow the inlet valve to soak in the solution for about half an hour and flush real well with clean water. Avoid submerging the solenoids and electrical connections, or getting them wet.

If you have questions along the way, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Why is washer making a squeal sound?

Turn off the water. Remove the inlet hose and clean the gauze strainer, replace and try again. If it still does it, it may be the water inlet valve needs replacing.

My Whirlpool Duet washer is making a loud squealing noise when filling with cold water, and/or the water is reduced to barely a trickle. It does not make the noise/reduce cold water flow every time.

Hi.
Try to remove the sand filter(s) from the inlet hose. Both on the valve and on the water crane(tap) end. Common problem.
Usually this is the problem, but not always.

Whirlpool washer water accumulation

Water is filling in the machine when it is not in use? If that is the case something must have fouled innards of the watervalve. The way it works is water pressure is pushing against spring-loaded plungers for hot and cold. When water is called for the solenoids get energized on the water valve and them plungers get snatched open. When the power goes off the water pressure and springs snap the plunger back into place. If sediment gets in there and fouls the plunger it sometimes will not completely shut off the flow of water causing a trickle to flow into the washer. To replace the valve is fairly simple. Remove the top and swap her out. If you shut off the water supply each time you wash then the trickle will cease but that is a pain in the **** to have to do.

Turned on whirlpool duet washer, came back to FH as realized forgot to turn water on. Have tried all the suggestions, but each time I plug the machine it tries to drain water and the motor hums. I cannot...

Make sure both hot and cold water supplies are turned on. Select a cold wash cycle and start the wash cycle, do you get cold water? Now select a hot wash cycle and start the wash cycle, do you get hot water? If you only get cold water replace the hot water fill valve. If you only get hot water replace the cold water fill valve. If you get neither replace both fill valves.

You are experiencing surge pressure due to the ATC. It is increasing then reducing the hot water slow to maintain a pre-determined temperature.
