LG 42PX5D - y sus board blown?

Hi, me again - further to my previous question, checked y sus board compared to z sus board - z sus "fizzes" (50 Hz) under the big heatsink, but the y sus board is silent. 5V, 60V and 186V supplies are all good. I've fried my devices under that heatsink, I reckon, as there's no other sign of damage.

Whadd'ya think?

Hello... Fried devices on the y sus will usually blow the fuse on the y sus. That would explain no fizz. I hope this helps...

SOURCE: SCREEN FOR LG 42PX5D 42 in.

I have dealt with Lg in the past regarding screens and they are unable to sell them as a spare as they are so expensive, they are only used in production and a complete new HD TV is cheaper to buy than a screen. for example LG37LP1D £900.00, a replacement screen £1500.00

SOURCE: Picture gone on an LG 42pc1dv-ec plasma. Sound OK,

Your Vs voltage is high, check if the heatsinks on the Z-sustain board are getting hot after a short time, if so replace the Z-sustain board. If not, dis-connect the Vs & Va plug connection to the Y-sustain & check if the voltages are normal (185V & 80V). If they are then your fault will be in the Y-sustain board. There is a possibility the control board (sits below the power supply) could also be a problem as it is not able to initiate the control to the sustain boards.

SOURCE: Turned my LG 50PX1D tonight and it has a blank

The Y sustain should have a ceramic fuse, possibly 2 and the Z should have one also. Leave the set on for about 20-30 minutes, then shut it off. Feel the large heat sink on each of the boards. If either is cold then that's the culprit. Encompassparts.com has these boards in stock. The Y is 250.00 and the Z is 168.00. A word of warning, the Y can also destroy the Y drive boards also, which are located on the left side next to the Y sustain. Sometimes you can see small pin holes on the driver ic's on the driver board but not always. These boards are non-repairable by us techs and must be replaced when bad. If you have any questions e-mail me at [email protected] I strongly disagree with used parts in any Plasma set.

Here are the service manuals:

If the power supply is not made by LG but by other OEM, then it will be hard to fix.
There should be a pin on the board usch as PS_ON or somthing like that, it should have 3.3~5vdc on this pn to turn on the 24vdc and 12vdc section on.

Model #50PC1DRA no picture but we have sound we replaced the zsus board and main logic main board and still no picture

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. As you have already replaced the Z-sus and the main logic board then the issue seems to be with the Y-main and/or Y-sus board. You’ll need to take the back off and check for any blown/bulged capacitors that might have gone bad and causing this issue. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

I have a 42" lg 42pc56 tv with perfect sound but no picture can you help?

Most common problems with no picture on plasma TVs are the 2 Y-buffers boards and the Y-SUS main board. Not being 100% sure without being there to check it out myself, I would have a TV repair confirm the diagnoses. Normally, they would charge a small fee to come to your home and check it out.
The cost of the replacement parts are not cheap. The new Y-buffer boards cost about $125 each. The new Y-SUS main cost about $200 - $350. That's why confirming the diagnoses would be a good idea because of how much money is involved for parts.

As i watched my LG last night it made a rather loud pop and shut down, the audio came back but no video. Any thoughts

well, that means something got realy hot under load. could be the main i.c. under the heatsink on one of the sustain boards. look for cook marks or discolorations on the backside of those boards. could also have been some condensors somewhere that popped but usually it wont be loud enough to hear and they may whistle instead and usually on the power board.

if the i.c. on (y-sus) popped on ya. it may have blown the upper and lower buffer boards it has attached to it. check with a meter to verify they are good or shorted (constant beep)

good thing is, lg has alot of boards out there.. shouldnt be a problem finding what you need.

Picture covered with big block of black - 3/4 of the screen ???

It sounds like your tv may require a plasma panel, but to be sure remove the back of the tv unit and check the y-sus printed circuit board as well as the z-sus printed circuit board, check that they are getting the correct voltage and that there are no blown compoments on the boards themselves. The boards names, z-sus and y-sus are written on the board as well as the voltages are listed down the side of where the plugs at the boards meet. Good Luck. Oh , and also, check with LG that it doesnt require a software upgrade.

Sometimes a shadow appears when it changes scene and the black is a bit hazy

This problem happens to plasma TVs usually due to the Z SUS part, Z SUS board and Z Drive Board, malfunctioning. The Z SUS is responsible in resetting the screen for the next picture to appear. If it malfunctions, the image of the previous picture freezes and appears as shadow. Usually, the last image on the screen when you turned the unit off appears when you turn it back on before the actual picture appears.
The usual fix for this is alignment. That is, adjusting the voltages that powers the boards to an appropriate value that is indicated on the back of the panel. You may need the service of a qualified technician to perform the alignment.
I hope you find this information helpful.

LG 42PX4MVH PLASMA TV - Sound but no picture.

You need the ysus board. This is a very common problem with LG's. If it is coming up with the fuse removed you are essentially removing the short from the power supply so that it can come up and deliver other voltages for sound and all. Check out encompassparts.com if you are going to try to repair this yourself. Thanks

While watching the tv I heard a loud zapping sound and the screen has no pic. Sound is find - but no pic. What should I check?

Check the fuse on the y-sustain board it is probably open circuit. I suspect the zapping sound is one of the IC's on the buffer board has blown (this would cause the Y-sustain fuse to blow) this is the board on the left hand edge that is connected to the Y-sustain board, there is more than one & if you inspect them closely you will probably see one that has cracked, if this is the case then replace this board. Then replace the Y-sus fuse.

Lg plasma flatscreen

Hi,
The boards responsible for sending signals to your plasma screen has gone bad. Technically speaking, the Y SUS, Z SUS and the Y Buffers are suspect. Sometimes, owners heard a popping sound then the display will go away leaving only sound. It's an expensive repair that can go upwards of $500. Fortunately, LG typically has two (2) years parts and labor warranty for their big screen TVs. LG has a strict repair turn-around time so call it in and you'll have your TV fixed in no time... (realistically, 5-7 days). Best Regards
