Try to replace your power supply. Most cases on this kind of problem is on the power supply.

Try taking the newly installed RAM out and re-seating it. If the persists you might have a bad block on the memory chip

If the drive cannot read dvds, try a cd. If it cannot read that either, then the drive is probably bad. You will need to replace it.

It uses DDR SDRAM rather than the newer DDR2 or DDR3.

At a guess I would say PATA rather than SATA (ie IDE) but have a look here for specs

Click on below link, then choose step 1 option (Download driver & Softwares) and click on Start Detection after that page automatically will be change then you click on "Continue". It will be detect your sound driver automatically.

go to the compaq sight and download the drivers and software from them, burn to a disk and then run it

You have the option of upgrading your processor without buying a new system. I wouldn't purchase the other system, If you looking to upgrade look at the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 6400+, that will step you up to 3.2GHz, which is compatible with your motherboard. The only thing you want to make sure off is that you have enough power to handle this processor. If you have a 450 or up power supply you'll be fine.

is that a pci sound card or the one on the motherboard ?

if it is the internal one... go to www.compaq.com and support... then enter the model number or have it autodetect your computer... install the sound driver for your operating system.
