-Open valve cover and check it out. It's bend or out of adjustment. If it's bend then has to replace the valve
that make noise. If it's out of adjust or gap is too wide
then just adjust to the correct gap. you should be good to go.
There is no such thing as a "cold start valve" but there is an IAC motor that adjusts the idle speed, and they can fail/stick and not turn on the check enging light. There are a couple of things that can cause what you are describing so I wouldn't just start throwing parts at it. You really need to have a shop with a scan tool have a look at it.
