If you go to www.searspartsdirect.com you can type in the model of you sewing machine and it will pull up a parts breakdown of your machine. Just look for the section that contains the tension unit. You might be able to reassemble the tension unit once you see all the parts in an exploded view.
Does the screeching come from the motor area or the brush/belt area?
If it's from the motor. Turn it off. It needs repair. If it's from the brush/belt area, most likely your belt is either slipping or rubbing on something. Do you have an owner's manual? If you do, and the noise come from the belts, take the belt(s) off and check them for wear, stretching, anything imbedded in them. Be sure to clean all debris out of the area. and reassemble. If still noisy, the belt may be slipping and needs to be replaced. Here's a site where you can view the parts breakdown and order parts: http://www.vacpartswarehouse.com/Bissell-Healthy-Home-Models-5770-5990-6100-6405-s/600.htm
Hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate a vote. Thanks,
One or more of the gears in the transmission have probably stripped. These are repairable, I have repaired mine in the past.
You can find a parts breakdown on www.SearsPartsDirect.com, or other places on the Web.
Disassemble, clean all parts and the casing of grease. Reassemble, including an application of new clean "food safe" grease, or that recommended by KitchenAid.
Found user manual online but no parts breakdown, I have a phone number at 1-800-343-9329 and they might be to email you the breakdown. Wish I had better info but this is all they furnish online.
Go to the dealer and ask the parts dept if they will print you a parts breakdown sheet from the factory parts manual, they are great for this kind of repair, really shows every little detail, don't shut me down on this suggestion, I have allot of experience doing these column repairs and the factory breakdown parts sheet is the best source I have come up with in 30 year's of being a mech.
