Valve clearances are set by either tappet screws in the lifters or on a lot of small engines, clearances must be set by either cutting out valve seats with a special cutter tool (to DECREASE clearances) or grinding the end of the valve (to INCREASE clearances) and generally are from .008-.010 on intake valves and .010-.012 on exhaust valves. Check engine specs to insure proper clearances.

u have a poss bad intake valve and or a poss sheared flywheel key causing the engine to fire when the valve is open Hope this helps!

Is it possible the the spring from the governor has broken or fallen off of its connection points?

3000 or 4000 is your clearance, get the piston up top dead center make sure piston is to the top of the cylinder rocker arms should be level with each other before you set them

Hi Jim, remove the centre bolt, it easiest with a rattle gun, then the pulley should slide off. Sometimes they freeze on and you may have to heat it with an oxy. Regards Phil.
