You can fix this in home only if you can disassembly the scanner section.Open the top cover and remove the scanner glass. Then you must remove the scanner section.Open it cover and carefully clean the ash from all mirrors. Then assembly everything and scanner will work again.
caroljust, The 'scan to' is a message that the scanner is saying ' I do not know where to scan this document to, that is, what program. I suggest you turn it off and turn it on again and it may reset to the default setting, otherwise you have to go into some softwear that came with that psc 750 and work with the softwear and ask it to scan from taht hp softwear from the computer. hi Clean the upper part of the scanner glass with soft cotton cloth. Ensure their are no visible marks on the glass.
If
the printer power cable is connected to the surge protector, connect it
directly to the wall jack and then perform power cycle on it.
Follow the steps below to power cycle your all-in-one:
1. Verify that the unit is switched on. Unplug the all-in-one from power and disconnect the connection port. 2. Wait 30 seconds. 3. Plug in the power only. 4. Repeat steps 2-4 two more times. 5. On the third time after plugging the unit into power, reconnect the connection port from the all-in-one to your computer.
After performing power cycle, you need to perform semi-full reset.
Press and hold Cancel and the Left Arrow key on the front panel keypad, while plugging in the power cord. Put the printer as stand alone and try copying any normal document by placing it on the scanner glass.
Issue
persists check if the scanner bulb is glowing and also able to move. If
the scanner bulb is either not moving or glowing, the problem is
related with hardware and needs to be serviced.
A friend of mine had a HP printer (Not a PSC 750) that he had simply plugged into his computer and was able to print properly but received the "options not set" message when he tried to scan.
The solution was to install the HP driver package for his printer.
If you are using the default Windows drivers for your printer you may need to install the HP driver package to access all of your printers functions.
