The memory card cannot be over 128 mb. Also the files need to be .jef format and stored in an emb folder on the card. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Blank Card, PE Design says it's a ''read only''

Hi - I think the problem is that although the Magic Card is compatible with your machine, it is not recognized by with the PED writer. I have the Brother PED-Basic sfotware and a Brother PED-Basic USB card writer box. The only blank card that the my Brother reader can read is the blank cards made by Brother. Which embroidery machine do you have (not critical - I'm just curious).

If you have both a Magic card and Magic Box, the box should have it's own software. I don't think the PE Design software recognizes non-brother equipment (bummer). The link I've provided below is to a dealer that sells two different blank Brother Cards. One of the cards is 1 mb. The other is 4 mb. They are the same price. You might check your documentation to see whether both cards are compatible with your reader and software. If you're not sure, you can call the dealer directly and ask. I have dealt with this dealer many times and find that they have great prices and are very knowledgeable. This link should take you to the page on which the blank Brother Cards are displayed - scroll down if you don't see them right away.

This dealer is located on the East Coast, so you probably won't be able to reach them by phone until tomorrow. I don't know of a dealer on the West Coast to whom I can refer you. One more thought - Babylock equipment is often interchangeable with Brother equipment. If you have a Babylock dealer in your area, you might be able to find a blank Babylock card that you can buy off the shelf. Just make sure you can return it just in case it won't work.

Let me know if I understand your situation correctly - if not, send me another comment and I'll be happy to research further. BTW - if it turns out that you can't use the Magic card and can't return it, you can probably sell it online.

Thanks for getting back - I really love doing this. If you have general questions about embroidery, feel free to ask. I own several consumer embroidery machines, and I operated a commerical embroidery business for several years.

I had the same problem and after buying a new card, found out that you get that message if the pattern you are trying to transfer is too big. reduce the size of the pattern and see if that works

SOURCE: I have purchased a Janome 9700 embroidery machine

Since you are able to view them from the ATA (Compact Flash) card on your computer and the designs are in *.jef format you should be able open them on your machine. Make sure you have selected to view designs from the ATA memory card and not the ones stored on the machine or from the External Card Reader box.
There is an additional program called Customizer that you can import designs, edit, and transfer them to your ATA card. Mine was part of my package deal when I purchased by 9700.

For the Brother NV1500 (aka Babylock Esante ESE2).

Bring the embroidery design onto the screen.

Press the save button in the upper right of the screen.(it looks like a pocket)

Where do I GET the blank disk for this machine

Does the machine use an ATA PC card, or a memory card and card reader.

ATA PC cards are sold with electronics and computer supplies.

The memory card has to be compatible with both the card reader and the format of the embroidery machine. These are sold at places such as Allbrands online or at the Viking dealer.

I have a Brother Super Gallaxie2100 Embroidery machine

You are more then likely downloading too larger images for the hoop chosen,or the machine does not take a large image try with a 100x100 image and see if it works,if the images come out ok then the problem is what I suggested, the problem would not be with your card, as the old card and the new card works on all brother machines,

Connecting to a computer

Are you asking how to connect the Brother PE-400D sewing machine?  You have "how to connect the '4000D' to a computer and what risk if any".  Which machine are you asking about - these are two different sewing machines.  If you are inquiring about the Brother PE 400-D, then your answer is... this machine is NOT capable of being connected to a computer.  However, if you wish to purchase or download embroidery designs from the internet, you may look into purchasing the Brother PE Basic. This allows you to download embroidery designs from the internet to your computer hard drive and then load them on to a Brother memory card.  The Brother memory card can then be slipped into the proper slot for the memory card on the sewing machine.  You will need to purchase embroider designs that are in the PES format for you Brother machine to read it.  Hope this helps!
