The Memorex is a player only. It does not have the ability to sync, that is, to exchange files with the iPhone. It should be able to play music already saved on the iPhone, however.
Your iHome may be an older model with an the wrong charge type. Different iPhone / iPod generations use different charge voltage with iPhone requiring a higher voltage than your iHome gives. My suggestion would be to get an adapter that should fix the problem.
