I was using the machine, started smoking, I unplugged it. Later plugged in and now won't work.
I'm afraid you burned a coil in the motor. And accidentally it stopped while that coil is between the contact brushes. Or one of the (or both) brushes are worn.
Testimonial: "Good explanation. What should I do about having it fixed or is it something my husband fix."
So how do you fix that? Mine did the same. Used it first time out of the box and it worked great. Stopped to refill the clean and empty the dirty water. When I started back up it worked for about 5 seconds and then cut off (as if someone unplugged it). Checked the outlets, that wasn't the problem. Sent it to the repair place that Hoover customer service directed. They kept it a week and the. Called to say it worked perfectly in their shop. I brought it home, and it worked great again... Then about halfway through the second tank of water the sound began to change (as of the motor was overheating and struggling). I cut it off, went back to it after time to cool, and NOTHING.

I’m having exact same issue. Need to finish the job, and it belongs to a friend. So what do I do to fix this?
