Broken water reservoir Sunbeam 3956 iron

A babysitter left the iron on the board and of course it was knocked off. This apparently and not surprisingly broke the reservoir. Is this possible to replace? I'd like to do so. Thanks for the input. Googling isn't very successful at finding pages about broken reservoirs and replacement parts and reinstalling such.

With appreciation...

SOURCE: how to clean brown water coming out of iron

The reservoir of your iron needs cleaning if it looks as though small deposits are being left in the small holes on the soleplate. Typically, the deposits are minerals from the water that you are using in the reservoir. The deposits may have a white color, and they may resemble salt.

Cleaning the reservoir requires the use of white vinegar and a clean rag. Fill the reservoir of a cold iron at least one fourth of the way with white vinegar. Turn the iron on and place it on the steam setting. Steam iron the clean rag until the reservoir is completely empty.

If the deposits are still visible to you, you will need to fill the reservoir with clean water and steam iron a rag again. If the deposits are still visible to you after this, you will need to repeat the process with vinegar until the deposits are no longer apparent.

Rinse the reservoir thoroughly with clean water by filling it completely and then emptying it completely. In order to avoid mineral buildup and deposits, use only distilled or purified water in the reservoir. If you continue to use tap water, simply remember to clean the reservoir periodically.

Vinegar has a strong smell associated with it, especially when it is heated. Ventilate the area where you are working as much as possible, by opening windows, turning on vents or fans, or keeping the door open.

The water you use to fill your iron is causing this problem. Once you clean it use distilled water available by the gallon at the grocery store. Joe

SOURCE: Will not send steam to the iron. Cleaned boiler

Assuming the iron is hot???, move the variable steam control from min to max several times to clear possible blockage. Sounds like the steam valve is clogged.

SOURCE: I have a Kenmore iron

RE: "I am not having trouble with the steam in my iron. The problem is water leaking from the access to the reservoir. I only tried using lesser amounts of water and making sure the cover is secure. I do not know what else to do."

Hello, welcome to Fixya!

Your Kenmore iron 80598 is having a leak because there is a hole somewhere on water reservoir.

Make sure the iron is not plugged into the wall. Get a screw driver disassemble the iron just to take a close loot at the reservoir in order to get the exact spot where the water is leaking from.

The moment you get the spot, click the spot to make it very dry. Now apply super glue on the spot that is leak. You can also put sand on the super glue before it gets dry.

That is, apply the super glue on he leaking spot, before the glue gets dry on the spot, put some sand on the glue liquid. This will make it very difficult for water to come out from that spot again.

I hope the above makes sense to you.

Regards.

How do I put water in the Sunbeam Steam Iron #GCSBBV-200

If the GCSBBV-200 is similar to other Sunbeam steam irons, fill the iron when it is cool and unplugged. With the ironing surface flat on the sole plate, set the Steam dial to dry and the Fabric Select dial to Min. Then use an easy-pour measuring cup to pour water into the opening at the top front of the iron. Make sure not to fill past the maximum fill level. (Tip the iron up as if you were resting it between passes with the iron to check the level.)

I hope this helps.

I cannot get my GCSBDS212 steam iron to make steam.

Have a look at the steam holes in the bottom, they should be nice an clean with no blockage. If they are blocked up you will need to remove the calcium buildup inside the iron. Get some LimeAway at HDepot, pour it into the water reservoir, let sit overnight. Next day turn the iron on and try steaming on some old papers covered with an old rag or towel, once it starts working steam for a few minutes, then unplug, drain it, put in clean distilled water and flush it out until the steam comes out clear. Use distilled water not tap water, it has much less mineral content and will be less likely to plug it up. Most pharmacies and Walmart sell distilled water. ! gallon about $1.25.

How to clean inside of iron

Please don't take Landsend advice, as it contadicts this whole "fixya" site! Let's keep it going by not giving in to this throw away world! Some people can't afford a $20 iron @ Wally's!
All the solutions above (besides Landsend) are on it!! Your City water is still too, hard for these delicate, devices. Filtered, as Alan Serna mentioned, is the way to go!! Dump your water out of your iron, when not using-maintenance is key, for everything, even your families!! : ) Have a G8 day!

How do you run clean cycle - I have lost the manual

Self-Cleaning and Maintaining Sole Plate

Use the self-cleaning feature once a month by moving the steam lever back and forth from the "dry" setting several times. This will remove any residue from the steam valve and ensure that the steam system works properly.

Wipe the sole plate with a soft, damp cloth while the iron is cool and unplugged.

Run the iron over a cotton cloth several times to remove any residue from the sole plate.

Cleaning Anti-Calcium Feature

Fill the water cup that came with your iron. Use enough water to reach the Sunbeam logo in the top corner of the cup.

Add a teaspoon of salt to the cup and stir.

Empty the salt solution into the water reservoir in your iron.

Allow the iron to stand for 15 minutes, then empty out the water reservoir.Repeat this cycle with a second cupful of salt water.

Rinse out the reservoir with clean water. You should perform this cleaning once a month.

LEAKING IRON

This was happening with mine - leaving trails of water behind as well when I ironed. I took it all apart (figured it was already broken, what could I do worse?) I discovered that there is a rubber gasket around the hole that lets water move from the reservoir to the heating plate. The two surfaces (reservoir and plate) are held together by screws, which compresses and seals the gasket. The bottom surface of the reservoir section had been cracked (due to a drop on the cement floor, probably, and the two surfaces could no longer fit tightly together, the crack allowed it to flex, and water leak out. In other word, once it's leaking like that, it's time for a new iron. Sorry I can't offer a fix, but at least a explanation!
