Park the vehicle on a level surface. Start the engine and keep it running while you check and top off the power steering fluid. If the wheels are pointed away from center, turn the steering wheel so that they are pointed straight ahead.
Open the hood and locate the coolant reservoir, which is located at the front of the engine. Remove the screw that holds on the trim panel around the reservoir. Turn and lift the trim panel to remove it.
Locate the green cap with a small slotted extension on top of it. Insert a small screwdriver or similar object into the slot. Remove the lid by turning the tool and the lid counterclockwise.
Clean the dipstick on the bottom of the lid. Screw the lid back into the reservoir so that the dipstick goes into the power steering fluid. Tighten the lid until the arrow on the lid points at the first mark on the reservoir.
Pull the lid back out and see where it reads. If the line from the fluid is below the full mark, add Audi-approved hydraulic fluid (G 002 00) until the dipstick reads to the full mark.
Reinstall and tighten the lid until the arrow on the cap points at the second mark on the reservoir. Turn the steering wheel to make sure the noise has gone away. Reinstall the plastic trim panel around the coolant reservoir and tighten the screw.

SOURCE: growling noise comming from back of car.

Usually when people use the word "growl" it is a bearing problem. Try spinning each side with the tires still on so you have some weight on it. Also bearing will often change in volume when you do lane changes. However, the very first thing you should do is check the gear oil level in the differential.

1994 Land Rover Discovery Manual has a grinding and clunking noise from rear, right side

A grinding noise suggests a bearing at fault or perhaps worn pads on the brake rotor.

However, the clunking noise you mention could also point to a problem with the drive shaft or differential.

The first thing you should do is to get under the vehicle and try twisting the propshaft back and forth. If there's any movement this points towards a worn universal joint on the propshaft. A worn universal joint can cause a clunking noise - particularly when pulling away. The vibration caused by a worn universal joint can also damage bearings in the differential and also to the splined ends of the axle shaft.

You're also going to have to remove the wheel from where the noise comes from and examine the end of the axle shaft/bearing.

Discovery 3 MY09 TDV6 front end whine under load acceleration

When you say whine does it only occur under acceleration only? If so most likely the wheel hub assembly or some will say wheel bearing but on these vehicles it is complete hub assembly. If you turn or swerve one way then the other does it go away in one direction? If so another strong indication of hub wearing out. If not, and it is a really high whine with acceleration it is also possibly the transmission. I have heard of this complaint before, it's not a sign of failure just a noise that develops due to the pressure placed on bearing under a load. First change fluid and filter for tranny after a good flushing. Replace with high quality fluid and a bottle of transmission seal restore product. Go 1000 miles, change fluid again, if noise is still there turn up radio.
Sorry but just a whine under acceleration isn't a lot to go on. But I'm willing to bet wheel hub. 9 out of ten front end whine complaints is wheel hub or bearing especially on a heavy 4x4 suv

How do i replace the front wheel brake discs on my 1995 discovery 300

Remove the front wheels and four wheel drive hubs.
The hub is pressed off using a bolt threaded in the center to push on the front axle.
Remove the hub to disc bolts.
Replace the disc and reinstall the disc to hub bolts torqued to 73 Newton Meters with loctite 270 applied to the threads.

I have a Disco II and the wheel hub bearing went and i'm tryign to change it but i cant seem to get the hub off, can any one help with a step to step guide or something, thanks.

RAVE says the following:
1) Release ABS Sensor harness grommet from inner wing valance and disconnect multi plug.
2) Raise front of vehicle.
3) Remove road wheel.
4) Pull ABS Sensor harness through aperture into wheel arch.
5) Release harness from brackets on inner wing valance, suspension turret and front hub.
6) Release stake from drive shaft nut
7) Remove drive shaft nut with assistance & discard.
8) Remove front brake disk (Remove calliper, pad holder, screw and tap to remove)
9) Remove 4 bolts securing wheel hub to steering knuckle.
10) Release wheel hub from steering knuckle then remove wheel hub and drive shaft assembly from axle. DO NOT REMOVE ABS SENSOR FROM HUB. HUB AND SENSOR ARE SUPPLIED AS AN ASSEMBLY.
11) Position the wheel hub and drive shaft on a press, place supports beneath the wheel studs and press the drive shaft from the wheel hub.
12) Remove drive shaft oil seal from axle casing.

Refit is mostly the reverse, you need to take care to lubricate things in the right places and put loctite on the drive shaft and locate the loom and torque everything right.
