The thermostat capillary on a Hotpoint RLA64 (and possibly RLA80) is inserted into a tube. The tube becomes detached from the cooling element and so does not sense that the fridge has reached the desired temperature. It then carries on cooling resulting in ice build-up and freezing of goods.
As you cannot remove the top or back of the fridge, you cannot fix the capillary tube back into position. What you can do however, AFTER ISOLATING THE FRIDGE FROM THE MAINS SUPPLY, is to drill a small hole adjacent to the thermostat capillary tube and another in the roof of the fridge next to the interior light and pass the thermostat capillary INTO the fridge cabinet. Use tape to attach the capillary across the roof of the fridge and down the centre of the rear wall curling the last 50mm or so back up towards the top of the fridge. As long as you have dried the wall of the fridge and stuck the capillary securely in place, your fridge should now work correctly when powered up.
Only tackle this job if you are confident and ALWAYS ISOLATE the mains supply.

Even at lowest setting refrigerator side freezes up

Possible failure of the thermostat or the sensor to the thermostat that is not working to control the cooling temperature and hence making the compressor work.

Try and set the thermostat to lowest just a little before it cuts off , if this wont work then the thermostat is faulty. Check the wires of the sensor to the cooling coils.

Refrigerator does not get cold. The freezer works fine, but the fridge only gets slightly cool.

normaly the fridge has its own thermostat to keep the tem right, if this thermostat has stoped working it will do one of two things,,, freez every thing up as it wont turn off the compressor or will just stop working as it wont turn on the compressor,,, try turning up the thermostat first,

Fridge keeps on freezing everything inside of it

This refrigerator only has one thermostat located in the fresh food compartment it is designed to activate the sealed system (cooling) until it reaches approximately 37 deg f in the fresh food compartment. The damper controls how fast the cold air can move from the freezer compartment to the fresh food compartment. Allowing you to control the temp in the freezer by controlling the flow of cold air to the thermostat.

You have one of two problems.
#1 your thermostat is no longer opening when it achieves set temp. fix = replace thermostat pn 61005798 $35
#2 your damper arm or assemblie has broken. Fix = Replace damper or broken arm and actuator.
damper assembly pn12001377 $44
damper actuator pn 61002000 $2
damper arm pn 61001999 $2
