You may have a hyd. Lifter going bad and losing oil pressure. Remove the rocker cover start the engine and see which one is not oiling. Just have a rag to keep oil from pumping out on you

this is an involved process so best that you get a workrshop manual for the vehicle as the description is accompanied with photos that will explain the job.

May need more information like sub-model (es, dx, etc) and liter size engine (2.0, 3.0) But usually this information is listed on under-hood sticker. And it will tell you if the valves are adjustable or not. If they are it will give the procedure and clearances.

Spark plug gap does not effect the engine timing so it's not that critical. Thirty 5 (.035) should work just fine.
Otherwise consult a service manual fro your model or call a Mitsubishi service centre

you will need to replace the entire drivetrain when going from a gas to diesel because of the larger engine and extra torque.

The fault is that the engine is wear,so get a mechanical enginer to overhaul the engine before it get worst
