The fan stays on to cool the engine down. It should shut off in a few minutes.though.

Fans are designed to run on after you shut engine down as engine temperature rise after switching off . running hot could be caused by the top hose having gone soft when you rev the engine the water pump sucks the hose flat stopping the coolant flow or the radiator is blocked and need flushing out

2001 Volvo s40 seems to stall and not start for ten to 15 min. Also has high temperature reading that is false as car is not really hot.

You need to look at the temp sending unit it's probably faulty anthor issue with volvo is dirty throttle body's this raises havoc on the car they idle up down all over the map also you should change the thermostat too as a precautionary measure make sure it's the right temp for your year of your car thanx Chris

Overheat and accelerating automatically

Time to change the thermostat if you not already have done so. This is the cause of most overheating problems, although a good radiator flush may solve the problem also. The fan will stay running until the engine coolant reaches the proper parameters and then shut off.

2001 volvo s40 cyl 2 misfire how do i repair?

Do a Compression Test, do a VISUAL INSPECTION of the Spark Plugs. If there is a COLOR DIFFERENCE and / or the Spark plugs on Cylinder 1 and 2 are CLEAN. you have a blown head gasket.

I have done so many of these 1.9 liter Turbo's with this same Problem that I can no longer count...

What causes the fan to keep running on a 2000 volvo s40

The temperature sensor for the fan now does it run when the engine is cold, with the a/c off? That fan only need to reun when the engine is about to exceed operating temperature,The sensor itself may have shorted out, It is not need when engine is cold unless the a/c is commanded on

Hello.I got my Volvo s40 2002.Its suppost to have a turbo build-in.But I cannot feel the difference, basically when is turbo starts working? Thanks!

The S 40 came with different size and spec engines and they were not all Turbo charged versions. The choice of engines available depends on which country you are in.

The turbocharger is driven by the engine's exhaust system and runs continuously but has minimal affect at low engine RPM. Unless the turbo has failed, you should feel the turbo effect kick in when you accelerate hard but there will be a brief lag .

If you have the turbo engine fitted to your 2002 model S40 you will have a " 1.9T " badge on the rear of your car under the S40 badge. The "T" designates Turbo. An engine designator badge without a "T" indicates it is not turbocharged.

The turbochargers on these S40 models will fail (especially if the car has done a lot of miles) so you should have your car examined if you feel the turbo is not functioning.
