I just bought a c240 mp3. When I connect it to my computer (Windows xp), the display on the Sandisk indicates "connected" and "writing". However, I have not been able to get the computer to recognize this device and I cannot download anything. Also, it does not seem to charge the battery; it seemed to give it about 1/3 charge with over 10 hours of plug in time. Help! Jim
I had the same problem with my c240..my computer would not recognize that i had connected anything..so i went to settings on the player scrolled down to USB option press ok and changed the setting to MSC instead of auto detect ..i reconnected it and the player came up immediately ..worked for me hope it does for the rest of you..{if anyone knows how to delete songs let me know..thks}
Computer does not recognize player when connected
Hello,
My Sandisk c240 v2 Ipod does not have USB option.
My PC was not detecting this ipod.
In "My Computer", I could not find it in 'Devices with Removable Storage' on the list...
When I connected it to my PC (Windows xp), the display on the Sandisk indicated "connected" and "writing". However, I was not able to get the computer to recognize this device.
My problem was uploading mp3 songs from my computer to the player.
I went to a tab "Copy to CD or device"...I saw on the right hand side a list of the 5 default songs that are already in a folder called 'Music' (there were other folders like 'Record', 'Photo' etc)... so I tried to upload the songs under that 'Music' folder.. but when I played my player again, it didn't show the songs (except the 5 defalt ones).
I could not add or remove songs... it just didn't appear to be pluged in.
You can find a manual at this web page:
http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/Downloads/user-guides/80-36-00556.pdf
You can also download the manual from the following URL:
http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/Downloads/user-guides/c200-ug-eng.pdf
THEN......
I went to the following site:.
http://kb.sandisk.com/cgi-bin/sandisk_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=42&p_created=1221328944&p_sid=RgOKf2qj&p_brand=sansa&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9NzYsNzYmcF9wcm9kcz00LDE5JnBfY2F0cz0wJnBfcHY9Mi4xOSZwX2N2PSZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PXNhbnNhIGMyMDAq&p_li=&p_topview=1
Then I clicked on MSC mode link.
SOLUTION 2 - Connect the device to the PC in MSC mode
View/c200: Turn on then press and hold the rewind button while plugging to the PC
Fuze/e200: Go to Settings > System Settings > USB Mode & select MSC
Clip: Go to Settings > USB mode & select MSC
See List of Sansa players with instructions on enabling MSC mode
Then I was taken to the following site:
http://kb.sandisk.com/cgi-bin/sandisk_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=61&p_sid=RgOKf2qj&p_lva=42&p_brand=sansa&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9NzYsNzYmcF9wcm9kcz00LDE5JnBfY2F0cz0wJnBfcHY9Mi4xOSZwX2N2PSZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PXNhbnNhIGMyMDAq&p_li=
There I followed the instructions given below:
Sansa c200v2:
1. Turn off your player.
2. Slide the Hold switch at the bottom edge of the player towards the REC button, so that the orange indicator is visible.
3. Press and hold the << (rewind) button.
4. With the << button held down, connect the player to the PC.
5. Release the << button once the player is detected
Now, my PC recognizes my Ipod and I am able to copy music files as well as Voice Recoded files from / to ipod.
Great!

I tried to charge my sansa disk sins caple day and is no result baterru is still not charge.
Not working - vista not propely instal mtp driver (vista or vista sp1)
on usb mass storage driver files is corupted and not working too
i try once again...
Check to see if you have the required programs.
You need Windows Media Player version 10 or higher and Windows XP / SP2 or Vista in order for the device to be recognized.
If its not charging, try a USB port in the back of the computer as they provide consistent power, as opposed to, the ones on the front.
Best of Luck.
Apparently I should read the manual first! Appears to be recognized and charging since I slid the button to the unlock position. Rock on!

I cannot get my computer to recognize that I have connected my sandisk. It reads "writing" on the sandisk screen, but nothing happens on the computer. I have not been able to add any songs or use my mp3 player at all. HELP!
how do you add songs to the sandisk Sansa c240 MP3 Player
I have the same problem not being able to see the hardware when it is plugged in to any of my USB ports and that includes the port in the back of my computer. It is not a user friendly product and I'm thinking of returning it for another brand.
restart my computer
checked and verify if its working with another comuter- working
I have Vista and installed CD, it only added the updated & converter, I saved the manual also but it doesn't show the c240 icon. So I phoned tech support and tried to install the mtppk12.exe that he recommended and it wouldn't because it's not a valid win32 app.
Tried all USB ports and battery still won't charge. Tech said if this didn't work to return to store for replacement. I don't want to go through the hassle and another 40 mi round trip. So if you please help me, I will really appreciate it.
Thanks!
