Service engine light is on

Need to check what the engine codes are first. You can use a scan tool or turn the key on and off three times in a row then leaving the key on the third time and the check engine light should flash. Count the flashes,(example: flashes two times and then three times thats code 23) or have a parts store scan it for free. Once you have a code it will put you in a direction on what system needs to be looked at.

The power loss light kept coming on in our 1985 lebaron. So replaced the battery, still kept losing power, replaced the alternator, still is losing power. What should I be checking next and is it...

the power loss light has nothing to do with the alternator, the power loss light is part of the on-board computer system it is the equivalent of the check engine light on newer cars it is on because one of the sensors is not working on the car.

this is how to retrieve the code that is turning on the light.

turn the key on ( do not crank the engine ) turn the key off, turn the key on, turn the key off, turn the key on. ( never crank the engine ) this all has to be done in les then 10 seconds so to re-cap key on, off,on,off, on.

the power loss light will start flashing. all codes are 2 digit, for example a code will look like this.

flash, flash, pause (about 1 second), flash, flash, flash this code would be a 23 , the first two flashes would be a 2 the pause is the separator the next 3 flashes are a 3 so the code is 23, i hope you under stand.

after you get the code let me know what it is and i will look it up for you....good luck

My 94 jeep loaps and then backfires out the tail pipe can you solve

Power train control module controls the drivetrain. If you can get a code from the computer it would go a long way diagnosing wether its an engine malfunction or computer issue. To get the codes bring a pen & piece of paper out to the car, turn the key to the run position (not start but when all the dash lights come on) then off then run then off then run (three times in the on position, after you have turned the ke on then off 3 times on then leave the key in the on position and watch the check engine light. It will flash a code to you for example check engine light turns on then off 1 time with a long pause then the light flashes three times then another pause this would be the #13 code , most start with this code to tell you that it is checking codes. Just count the # of flashes (from the check engine light) & that is the first # of the code it will pause then flash again & that is the second # of the code. Flash 5 times pause then 5 more flashes is the # 55, & that is the last code you get to indicate all codes have been displayed, so key on then off then on then off then on & watch the check engine light count the flashes write down that # when it pauses then count the next number of flashes until the pause & that is your trouble cod they are 2 # codes & usually 13 is the first code flashed & the # 55 is the code that lets you know it is done, all the 2 digit codes in between are trouble codes & can be found in a chiltons or haynes service manual or search the web for chrysler trouble or computer codes.

I need to figure out what wires to cross so that i can read my engine code and fix the problem so that my car starts, when i turn the key foward the engine lite comes on and flashes once and stays on...

You can't jump wires to read codes on this model.older modules you could.check engine light will come on and stay on with key in on position.this is normal.Check to see if security light is flashing after you try to crank engine. If so you have to relearn theft module by leaving ign key in run position for about 12 minutes until security light stops flashing.Very common problem

My grand voyager check engine light keeps coming on,but i do not know the problem.its a van.

cycle key, on,off,on,off,on & leave on (not start) now count flashes of check engine light, 2 digit numbers. For example. flash, flash, flash, pause, flash, flash, flash, is code 33. or flash, flash, pause, flash, is code 21. Write them down & get back to me. when you get code 55, that's telling you end of message.

Check engine light on

Cycle your key, on (not start) off, on, off, on. Leave it on 3rd time, and count check engine flashes. It will be a 2 digit number each time. For example: flash, flash, pause, flash, flash. Is code 22.
Flash, flash, flash, pause, flash, flash, flash, is code 33. There will be a little longer pause after each set of 2 digits. When you get flash,5 times, then flash 5 times again, that's code 55 which means end of trouble code message. have a piece of paper ready, write them down, and get back to us with results.

What does the check engine light mean on a 1993 dodge caravan turns on after van warms up

Hey there!

To find the code, get a pencil and paper, sit in the drivers seat and gaze at the instrument panel. insert your key in the ignition. (do not turn) Look at the dask and watch the area where the "check Engine" light comes on.. turn the key on-off-on-off-on (semi quickly) do not start the engine.
leave on . the engine light will start flashing. it's like morse code. it will flash a set of numbers then another, then pause, then next number and next, pause (for instance if it is a code twelve, it would flash as follows.. * (short pause) ** (longer pause) if there are other codes, it wil flash them too. so if there were say two codes, say 34 and 35 , it would flash as follows, *** (short pause) ****, (longer pause) ***(short pause)***** ( longer pause) it takes a little to watch the codes and write at the same time. sometimes helps if you have one person watch the light and one write the codes. If you miss one, don't worry it usually repeatseach code three times. if you can't get it quick enough, turn the key off, then wait two - three seconds and try again. let me know wha the codes are and I'll try and help you. good luck.

Engine light fr ash 10 time

what your check engine light is doing is called the key dance.

The "Key Dance" is a coined term to identify a process of reading MIL fault codes stored by your cars engine computer (PCM). You cycle your ignition key from off to on (not start) 3 times leaving it on. You then count the number of times the Service Engine Soon light flashes. This combination of flashes identifies a fault code. For example, a code 21 would be flash, flash, pause, flash. All codes are 2 digits. Multiple codes are seperated by longer pauses. It should end with a code 55 indicating the process is finished.

Sometimes in newer models, the code is shown on the trip odometer. They would be P codes.

I would pull out my obd code reader and find out what it's telling me. Some parts places (Autozone, O'Reilys, etc) would even have a code reader you could borrow to check for any obd codes.
