When I connect my WD to the CPU the light comes

When I connect my WD to the CPU the light comes on but the Cpu says the device is not recognized. How can I correct this

Make sure you have the power plugged in plus the flat cable. Unplug the drive and start your computer. Power computer off and try hooking it up again. Windows should find it. If it doesn't, do you have the CD that came with it? If you do, go to control Panel, add hardware, and when it prompts you, insert CD. It should find it. If it doesn't find it the first time, I have had success on the second or third try, so don't give up. Hope this helps.

try to disconnect all usb devices and install it again to another port also try to install it on another PC if it workson another PC and yours not then try to remove ur O/S and install a good one like windows Xp SP2

Turn off CPU, Unplug Power cable, And all usb devices, let it sit for about 20mins. Plug it all back in. Turn on the CPU! Also make sure if your device requires "DRIVERS" or if you have a CD download and install that before anything.

When i plug any usb device to the system it freezes

There are two way connect the usb device in the cpu that means front and back side of the cpu. Most of the front usb are not connect well. So you can connect it to the back side of the cpu.

If the problem comes again when connect it to the back panel of the cpu again it freeze. then you can reintall the usb device driver.that you got form the motherboard cd.
